So excluding stuff like The Shawshank Redemption (1994), The Green Mile (1999) and
Stand by Me (1986). Just strictly horror. I found it difficult to restrict it to just five but here is what makes my top five:

Storm of the Century (1999 Mini-Series)
Pet Sematary (1989)
The Dark Half (1993)
The Shining (1980)
It (1990 Mini-Series)

There were a lot that missed the cut for me, especially The Dead Zone (1983) but it can't be helped. What sbout you? What are your Top 5 Stephen King horror adaptations?

i wouldn't be a fan of Silver Bullet (1985) but i liked Maximum Overdrive (1986) - even thou it has its fair share of people who dont like it. have you seen The Mangler (1995) ? that is the only adaptation i haven't seen.

That's okay, I like Maximum Overdrive more than enough to make up for those who don't. It's my favorite movie. And I've seen The Mangler. It's just okay. Not the worst adaptation to have left to watch.

I've seen Graveyard Shift and I agree, it's fun. In general, I enjoy older animal horror movies like that.

Carrie
Misery
It
Pet Sematary
Sleepwalkers

The last one isn't great but so fukked up it has to be on the list

Also enjoyable:
The Rage: Carrie 2
Dolores Claiborne
Firestarter
Children of the Corn
Cat's Eye

I liked the Storm of the Century until the point the mysterious man started to reveal why he was there, that felt really shitty and dumb. The Tommyknockers could have been great given the concept but terrible execution. The Shining would have worked if Jack didn't look crazy from the start, also not much happens in it. Cujo I found just plain stupid. I have seen Creepshow but forgotten everything. Rose Red and Diary of Ellen Rimbauer had nice atmosphere but the story was rather messy.

That is the first time that i seen Sleepwalkers mentioned - i think it is good. It has been like 20 years since i seen it but i liked it. I also really liked Dolores Claiborne, Firestarter, Children of the Corn. I seen The Rage: Carrie 2 years ago but it is due a re-watch cause i don't remember much about it. i didn't know you liked It emoticon

Read my edit too :)

I haven't seen Sleepwalkers in a very long time either but I remember some fucked up scenes from it between mother and son and of course the police officer getting a pencil through his head.
Carrie 2 I think is a nice reboot of the original without being an exact copy. the Carrie remake with Chloe Grace M I haven't seen but I refuse it as I feel they have modernized it a lot and royally screwed up the shower scene.

yeah, it was a pretty fucked up movie by stephen king standards. i haven't seen Carrie 2 - i will try to watch that one. no i wouldn't be bothered with the remake either. I liked Rose Red but felt it was overlong. i didn't like The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer. The Tommyknockers was ok but it ran out of steam towards the end. i like Cujo.

I felt The Tommyknockers was some kind of rip-off of Village of the Damned, a great movie IMO.

Delores Claiborne would be on my list if we were including movies that weren't horror, maybe it's me, but I don't see it as horror.

Sorry my wrong. Delores Claiborne is definitely not horror! I don't know what i was thinking! Great movie tho! Did you notice the reference to The Shawshank Redemption? Where Dolores tells Joe that he's going to have "a long stay in Shawshank prison", for what he's done to Selina. emoticon

Carrie (1976)
'Salem's Lot (1979)
Creepshow
The Dead Zone
Apt Pupil

Next 3:
The Shining (1980)
Misery
Silver Bullet
Storm of the Century (I've only seen this one but it may climb higher with rewatches)
Pet Sematary

There are others I like but those are my favorites.

Salem's Lot (1979) scared the shit out of me when i was a kid. that window scene emoticon Apt Pupil was a well made tense fare, which i like very much.

Agreed - especially the window scene. Plus, watching it on TV when it was first on felt like such an event. It has held up for me on repeat viewings too, as has Apt Pupil.

Carrie (1976)
Love everything about this movie. I met Piper Laurie, PJ Soles, and Nancy Allen, and had a place on my wall for this movie. I stole a dvd insert for this movie, because I needed it. I hate the 2013 remake, and I dislike the 2002 remake.

The Shining (1980)
Saw this in theaters recently, and it was great that the audience can still get hypnotized under the direction of Stanley Kubrick. Jack Nicholson was born to play a psycho, because he is one.

Creepshow (1982)
The best anthology ever, with a horror star-studded cast, and zero dull segments. This movie is an excessively atmospheric masterpiece.

The Dead Zone (1983)
Atypical Cronenberg drama with Christopher Walken. Super solid movie.

Pet Sematary (1989)
Creepy as hell tale of grief and bad choices made because of said grief. Now this... is a great horror movie... except the scenes with the ghost jogger. He's kind of a joke, but the rest is great!

HM: Maximum Overdrive (1986), It (1990), Sleepwalkers (1992)

Nice write up, Box! i agree with a lot of what you wrote. Pet Sematary (1989) is such a great movie. i do agree with you on The Dead Zone (1983) having drama elements. The Shining (1980) is due a re-watch. the last time i seen was like 20 years ago. glad you liked Sleepwalkers (1992) too emoticon
