Somehow missed this reply but yeah you're not wrong. Cliff Burton died on Master of Puppets tour. I think, not sure he recorded the Garage Days Revisited EP with covers of Misfits songs Last Caress and Greenhell. They brought in Jason Newstead to replace him and imo were never the same. They also signed a new record deal before And Justice For All and agreed to start doing music vids...One was a great song the rest of the album is middling imo. Their previous albums had no middling songs on them.

I've been listening to (and liking) Vic Chesnutt, Dirty Three, Unwound
Gave all 3 albums from Galaxie 500 another spin the other day, great apart from the fact they wrote the same song over and over, just changed the words. Its hilarious they done it on one album, but for them to do it 3 albums is a masterstroke

I'm not the only one to pick up on this, the reviewer doesnt mention its the same strum pattern as well as the same chords.

Over three albums, three years, and five chords, Galaxie 500โs sound remained more or less the same, with little variation on a very simple formula; listening chronologically to the bandโs three albums in one sitting is like experiencing one long, two-hour medley. Of the nine songs on Today, only two do not use some variation on the G-D-C chord progression (and one of those is a cover). Itโs been said that if you canโt play every Galaxie 500 song after two guitar lessons, you might want to get yourself checked for a concussion. But Galaxie 500 are perhaps the only band for whom the term โmonochromaticโ can be applied positively; no band has ever so totally encompassed the entire perceptible spectrum of blue.

I actually prefer Silver Mt Zion (Efrim has a great voice) but its doubtful if they will tour again, since its been 8 years since their last show/album

Also a big fan of Silver Mt. Zion. Gotta disagree about Efrim having a great voice though lol.

nah mate, truly good, I listened to them last night a few albums. His voice is strikes me similar to roger waters/dylan/frank black etc whilst not classically good, just an emotionally powerfully talent that to me reaches the heart more authentically than some voices I loath eg like Mikael ร
kerfeldt(opeth) or perry farrell . Both in bands that make good music but fuck the lame ass weak voices, do fucken cartoons or something,
WRT perry farrell I was reading an article a few years ago where he was going on about his 'talent' and how he goes on about how he lecturers other singers how to sing good.
It was not comedy writin he was serious. Personally I would of saved the students some cash and just said , take heroin get constipated then do your vocals like your trying to squeeze a week old solid dry chocolate bar out your ass, you know the kind that just wont slide out, with razor blades to get the squeals just right
