Never really looked at this thread til now. Actually quite surprised you never listened to a lot of these metal bands you being the big Sabbath fan. I was a big metalhead in my teens in the mid 80s, long hair with the painted Maiden Killers denim jacket and all. At the time Metallica was the new, when Ride the Lightning came out we all discovered Kill Em All and eagerly awaited the release of Master of Puppets. It's too bad they sold out after And Justice For All. Everything after was terrible imo including Black, never were the same since...fn kunts.

Metallica died for me when Cliff Burton died. Every single track on Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets is great imo. They were so metal in those days they fought with their record company cause they refused to make music videos at the height of MTV's popularity...they said they didn't need to and they were right.

Somehow missed this reply but yeah you're not wrong. Cliff Burton died on Master of Puppets tour. I think, not sure he recorded the Garage Days Revisited EP with covers of Misfits songs Last Caress and Greenhell. They brought in Jason Newstead to replace him and imo were never the same. They also signed a new record deal before And Justice For All and agreed to start doing music vids...One was a great song the rest of the album is middling imo. Their previous albums had no middling songs on them.

Was a fan of Shout At The Devil when I was 12 but quickly tuned out when Theatre of Pain came out... Vaguely recall when they tried to push this on K-rock radio station when it came out, friends laughing and begging to change the station in the car to the pop station, they'd rather listen to Roxette.

Eh...I guess you had to be there at the time between 90-92 when hair metal was on it's way out and grunge was the new, it just seemed preposterous that Crue would change what they'd always been and sell out to seem relevant? For what it's worth the only grunge band I really ever liked was Alice in Chains, Screaming Trees and Soundgarden were ok.

I really like Facelift, Dirt, Sap and Jar of Flies. Their b-sides are better than their more famous songs that got a lot of airplay during that time imo. To me that's what makes a great album

Fuckin love Don't Follow, my favorite song on the album. Facelift and Dirt are much more metal but when they slowed down some on Sap and Jar of Flies it didn't matter cause their song writing was so good imo.

Nice rec...those kids can play. Listened to a few other tunes of theirs and the whole band is great but the drummer is really tight imo.

Have you ever seen their live performance of Midlife Crisis on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno where Patton says sure I'll give a good lipsync performance?!
Feb '23
Easy enough to find, just search Faith No More Midlife Crisis Tonight Show...I was shown this years ago and truly shows how great a singer Patton is. Saw them live I believe in 94 on a split bill with Helmet at Roseland Ballroom. Great show on both sides of the bill tbh.

This is absolute trash...the art of selling out hoping to make it mainstream. Need to go listen to their self titled debut to cleanse my ears now.
