God dammit! George Romero a month ago, and now Tobe Hooper. Not many of the big ones left emoticon

Tobe Hooper was kind of hit or miss, but when he hit, he hit hard. Everyone will remember him for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and that ought to be good enough, but he gave us a few other solid horror classics, too.

Eaten Alive, The Funhouse, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 are all great movies. Poltergeist, I didn't care for, but to my understanding, that was mostly Spielberg anyway.

Like many greats, he fizzled out toward the end, but he certainly left his mark early on in his career.

RIP Tobe Hooper!

Yeah, it's quite the bummer. Although his output in later years wasn't the best, he did give us some awesome flicks like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Funhouse. RIP, Tobe Hooper!

Gay. I can't say I was a huge fan of his, but TCM scared the shit outta me when I was 12. So, there's always TCM.

R.I.P.

Another Maestro I expected to outlive Carpenter. I should stop saying that or I will jinx him, but I hope he's a lot like Keith Richards and will never die.

Hooper's films frequently filled me with dread AND made me laugh. He made a few bad ones, but they are still fun, and he has a lot of classics that I watch over and over again. He's probably in my Top Five of Horror Directors. Heck, I even read a novel by him that was decent. I'm very sorry to see him go.

R.I.P. Tobe Hooper.

Poor Tobe Hooper. Couldn't catch a decent break in life and now he's gone. May he be up there with all the Dr. Pepper and cocaine he can handle.

I expressed ym condolences in the shout box, but I also did watch The Mangler to commemorate our beloved departed... it was okay. ~5.5/10.

RIP Hooper

LOL - The Mangler is one that I was thinking of when I said he made a few bad ones. It's best enjoyed on a turkey level, especially Englund's completely over-the-top performance. Although Ted Levine is always fun to watch and listen to - even he couldn't overcome a script this bad. Even so, one day I'll watch it again - and probably wonder why.

Now Lifeforce - there's a turkey I can watch over and over again without regrets. emoticon

I almost rewatched Lifeforce actually... but opted for an FTV instead. ;)

Yeah, you've got Robert Beltran, I've got Mathilda May. I'd prefer maybe Juliette Binoche or Beatrice Dalle but I'm not complaining. emoticon
