A post in the Challenge thread got me thinking about this, plus I watched Deadline last night, which qualifies...

...so what are some horror films that feature other, unknown/fabricated films or films made specifically as part of the plot device for the film in which they appear. E.G. in Deadline one of the films that is currently being produced is not an actual film that I'm aware of, and in the film Found there is a fabricated (but then subsquently released) film "Headless".

...any others? And if this post doesnt make sense it's because it's 5:43am and I haven't had coffee yet emoticon

I'm almost afriad to say this, but I haven't seen Monster Squad. By the time it came out I was old enough to disregard horrors with a PG-13 rating, for the most part.
But, I take your word for it: good one!

...for the purposes of this thread it doesn't matter if it was part of the plot or anything.
Beatnik's post about Berberian Sound Studio in the challenge thread is what mnade me think of this.

What about Last Horror Fiml with Spinell? I know he's at Cannes, but is there a fake horror film in there somewhere? Maybe a fake non-horror flick...

Now that's convoluted... a fake-film within a film, with a fake-trailer for another unknown film. Bam!

Yeah, Found was very good imho... as is that Calvin strip. Lomg PIgs has actually been on my watch list for several years. I need to look around for it soon.

All great mentions, beatnik! I never would have recalled Howling III, that's for sure. and I totally forgot about Body Double, that one is great. Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! I saw in 1990 when they showed it in an amphitheater at college. I need to watch more Almodรณvar; think I've only seen a couple of his beyond that one.

I saw some of those, and their ilk, when I was living in Philly c. 1989-93. The sick and twisted animation, and also Terminal City Ricochet. Does that ring a bell? Biafra at his most... scathing maybe, in some areas. Wack, socio-political commentary on something as I recall.
I've never seen Mudhoney the film... just the band though

DK was my favorite band in high school... well them and the English Beat I'd say.
Saw Mudhoney in Philly also (I believe at the Trocadero). Plus I got to see Gibby Hanyes at the same club hoist a flaming guitar over his head and chuck it into the rest of the band equipment... not too smart, Haynes!
