A post in the Challenge thread got me thinking about this, plus I watched Deadline last night, which qualifies...

...so what are some horror films that feature other, unknown/fabricated films or films made specifically as part of the plot device for the film in which they appear. E.G. in Deadline one of the films that is currently being produced is not an actual film that I'm aware of, and in the film Found there is a fabricated (but then subsquently released) film "Headless".

...any others? And if this post doesnt make sense it's because it's 5:43am and I haven't had coffee yet emoticon

I think the two kids are watching a movie called Garden Tool Massacre in the Blob '88, featuring a Jason knock-off and all.

The Signal (2007) begins with some scenes from a movie within the movie. The movie the scene was from was called The Hap Hapgood Story... here, it's on the IMDB page:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780607/trivia

argh! so late to this thread all the good ones have been mentioned, only have Cigarette Burns, the Carpenter Masters of Horror ep left. Le Fin Absolue Du Monde was the film. guessing beatnik mentioning Anguish was the inspiration, nice idea for a post, should get some decent recs.

I liked Found a lot, Headless was exactly what you want and expect

Trying to think of more, The Final Girls is sorta a horror film in a movie... Long Pigs i just want to plug, its more mocdoc than 'movie within'. hmmm, i know i have an obscure one somewhere driving me mad to dredge up the memory before my mind breaks..

Yeah, Found was very good imho... as is that Calvin strip. Lomg PIgs has actually been on my watch list for several years. I need to look around for it soon.

Berberian Sound Studio is all about adding the sound fx, foley and dubbing tracks to an Italian supernatural horror that you never get to see - except for the dazzling opening credits sequence.

Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! opens with footage from a fabricated Euro horror that looks awesome.

I believe you see quite a bit of at least one fake horror flick in Body Double.

Hollywood Boulevard features the filming of several B-Movies, including one slasher pic.

The werewolf babe in Howling III gets a job on a horror film and we see several scenes being shot.

All great mentions, beatnik! I never would have recalled Howling III, that's for sure. and I totally forgot about Body Double, that one is great. Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! I saw in 1990 when they showed it in an amphitheater at college. I need to watch more Almodรณvar; think I've only seen a couple of his beyond that one.

I recalled Howling III just as I hit send and did a hasty edit. I'm sure there are a lot more - I just need a better search engine for my mind.

Almodovar is great. I've seen maybe half of his films. Tie Me Up! has always been a favorite. I also really like Matador, The flower of My Secret and Talk To Her.

Those few years late 80's to around when I moved up to the Seattle area in '94 I went to Cinema 21 a lot. It was great because they played all kinds of films- foreign, indie, older, horror. Saw Dr Strangelove, Mudhoney, Faster Pussycat Kill Kill, double feaute of Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers and Chopper Chicks In Zombie Town, it's where I discovered Hal Hartley. Also the Sick And Twisted Animated Film Festival, saw the original Ren & Stempy beforethey were on TV.

I saw some of those, and their ilk, when I was living in Philly c. 1989-93. The sick and twisted animation, and also Terminal City Ricochet. Does that ring a bell? Biafra at his most... scathing maybe, in some areas. Wack, socio-political commentary on something as I recall.
I've never seen Mudhoney the film... just the band though

I haven't seen that, but it's on my list now. Sounds up my alley :) And I am a fan of Dead Kennedys.

Mudhoney, also saw the band (Satyricon in Portland)
