A post in the Challenge thread got me thinking about this, plus I watched Deadline last night, which qualifies...

...so what are some horror films that feature other, unknown/fabricated films or films made specifically as part of the plot device for the film in which they appear. E.G. in Deadline one of the films that is currently being produced is not an actual film that I'm aware of, and in the film Found there is a fabricated (but then subsquently released) film "Headless".

...any others? And if this post doesnt make sense it's because it's 5:43am and I haven't had coffee yet emoticon

I always wanted that to be a real movie, the one in Demons.

The slasher film Groundhog Day in The Monster Squad.

The film they're making in Return To Horror High, it cuts back and forth between the film being made, to the actors and crew.

Groundhog Day is seen at a drive-in, not part of the film's plot or anything, but we do see a scene from it.

The Monster Squad is like the horror version of The Goonies, some excellent monster creations by Stan Winston who gave the Universal Monsters his own spin.

I thought of that one too, but can't remember, it's been a long time since I've seen it.

I've forgotten how it's described, but Headless is in the book Found is based on.

Been ahwile since I've watched it, but The Hills Run Red is about a lost horror film. I think we see clips from it.

Midnight Movie, the killer from a movie showing at a theater comes out and starts killing the audience.

And let's not forget Joe Dante's Matinee, which features Mant!

Okay, this isn't what you were asking for, but I thought of it so I'm posting it. In the opening credits of the American cut of Zombie Holocaust the scenes show are from the unfinished 1970's horror anthology Tales To Rip Your Heart Out.

I saw Tie Me Up Tie Me Down that same year! It was at Cinema 21 in Portland.

Those few years late 80's to around when I moved up to the Seattle area in '94 I went to Cinema 21 a lot. It was great because they played all kinds of films- foreign, indie, older, horror. Saw Dr Strangelove, Mudhoney, Faster Pussycat Kill Kill, double feaute of Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers and Chopper Chicks In Zombie Town, it's where I discovered Hal Hartley. Also the Sick And Twisted Animated Film Festival, saw the original Ren & Stempy beforethey were on TV.

I haven't seen that, but it's on my list now. Sounds up my alley :) And I am a fan of Dead Kennedys.

Mudhoney, also saw the band (Satyricon in Portland)

Oh, duh. Can't believe I forgot: The Video Dead. The zombies from a cheesy old zombie movie come out of a television and terrorize a neighborhood.
