I've always dug the sequel more than the original.

The first seems one-dimensional by comparison
(strictly beheadings, as opposed to an elevator killing, for example).
It didn't hurt that in the sequel, he's protected by ravens, rather than a rottweiler.
Imho, the cemetary conversations in the sequel are more compelling than any in part one.

I also prefer the conclusion in the sequel (since he's that much closer to world-domination).

Only the original worked for me, i thought the sequels were waste of time and i hate myself for being a completist and i had to endure them.

I like both. I think I rated them both an 8. there are some cool kills in 2.

You've got some fair points. Ravens were a good idea, and the elevator scene is pretty cool, I'll give you that. Not to forget, it has Lance Henriksen.

I still feel that it's too much of a rehash of the first movie, only not as creepy. It needs a rewatch though.

I too preferred the sequel. Whether it'sa better movie or not is debatable, but I found it both more intereting and entertaining.

The original just sneaks it for me, Donner does dread very well, aided by an eerie score. & the memorable set piece death scenes - the nanny suicide scene really stuck with me. Plus Troughton's impalement, Warner's beheading n the creepiest fourth walll break ever

The sequel is really good too, recreates the constant atmosphere of dread & yeah the elevator death is great. Ravens are cool too.

only flaw's a distinct lack of Sam Neill in both

Mmm. I think The Omen is a better film - better film craft, Donner the better director, but maybe I enjoy II more. Certainlay the score by Jerry Goldsmith perks up a bit, I love the locations and the machinations of Damien's designated protectors. I'm also fascinated by the notion of Damien learning who he is and rebelling against his destiny, though not enough was done with that.

I like III as well. Good score and you can't go wrong with Sam Neill.

If I have to choose, I'll go with the original, but I really like them both a lot. I have to respect the original more just for taking the basic Rosemary's Baby idea and really running with it, turning it into so much more... the sense of implicit destiny and almost mythic grandeur of the settings in Rome, London, and Jerusalem... the haunting soundtrack... just that feeling of unseen forces and entities controlling our destinies, just out of sight... it really wigged me out, the first time I saw it.

I like Omen 2 also, however. I thought it was really interesting how they set things up to suggest that Damien's life would go in a military direction. That whole school was a military academy. And, even more, they showed Damien personally as being unusually competitive within that environment, like when he makes Mark race him around the grounds. I really think they were planning to take the franchise in some kind of a military diretion, maybe leading to some kind of Armageddon type of clash in the end, but then they decided to make Damien more of an evil diplomat, in Omen 3 (which I also like(mostly)).
