I blind bought these two recently and plan on watching them at the weekend.

Any thoughts on these two movies?

I liked Spring and probably Horns as well. I don't remember much about that one.

Spring's pretty much romance with some horror elements. Normally I wouldn't care about a romance movie, but the horror that's present is enough to keep things interesting.

It is reassuring these films are getting the thumbs up here - it makes it the more probable that I will dig them.

I actually really like romance in horror movies, not the sappy kind but the kind from return of the living dead 3 - the twisted kind emoticon

Honestly, I think they're both kind of wonderful movies. I like Horns because it's got an airy Aja tone to it. I think Radcliffe is a decent actor, and the movie is pretty interesting. Some people think it's predicatable, and the ending is kind of off, but I mostly liked it. It's kind of comparable to The Crow in the means of avenging a loved one.

Spring is an even more romantic movie, and probably one of my favorite romances ever. It's showcases the countryside of Italy, and the exoticism of its setting and characters makes this one stand out. I think the directors of this one make some very cool movies.

I was just reading your review of Spring. Great review! I love horror movies with great scenery. This movie really seems up my alley.

I admit for a long time Radcliffe put me off the idea of watching Horns but having read the positive reviews of it. I will give it a go. It seems another kinda of twisted horror romance kind of film. Would I be correct?

You have good taste in horror, Box. We seem to have a shared appreciation in these character-driven horror movies. Any suggestions of good movies to check-out like these?

Unfortunately, I don't have any new suggestions. These two movies kind of stand out in their own way, and make for a great double feature, due to the romantic themes and airy atmospheres.

You don't see much artistic takes in horror these days, but Aja had the magic touch with High Tension, and then lost it, and got some of it back with Horns. Benson and Moorhead movies are always pretty spiffy. I also think 'Bug' 2006 kind of fits in with the romantic/slowburn elements, and perhaps Mandy (didn't really care for that one though).

It's really hard to find other titles like this, and I want recommendations too.

Thanks for the recs!

I have a few if you haven't seen them:

Habit 1995
Dead Leaves 1998
Dance of the Damned 1989
Till Death 1978
Zombie Honeymoon 2004
Blood & Donuts 1995
Tale of a Vampire 1992
Shadows of the Dead 2004
The Iron Rose 1973

For non-horror recs check out Before Sunset/Sunrise films. Very similar in cinematography from what I read.

Bug is a very good rec. I seen that the other week and it fits that style and atmosphere.

Spring has haunted me. A wonderful, thoughtful horror. One of my best blind buys. Gorgeous scenery, and beautiful plot.

7/10 Spring (2014)
6/10 Horns (2013)

both felt a bit like TV melodramas, Horns was the morn enjoyable of the two IIRC

Spring is superb. Imagine Before Sunset/Sunset meets body horror.

Spring is great, it's essentially a Richard Linklater esque movie mixed with horror elements and it works. Visually stunning and the two leads are phenomenal as well.

Horns is really good too. The tone is a bit uneven at times, but the premise is just so weird and fascinating that it makes for a fun watch. Also love Radcliffe in these weird roles.

Spring is beautiful to look at and I really like the subtle, natural way it builds. Definitely worth the time.

I still prefer Joe Hill's story reg. Horns but I do enjoy the film as well for the most part. Loved Radcliffe, honestly never had a vested interest in anything he'd done before.. this however swerved my opinion of him and I thought he was good in the role. Great soundtrack too & loved the humour, so yeah it's solid, silly fun emoticon
