So lately I have been thinking about books that were made into movies or tv shows. And there are a few that I wish were never made, or should have been a tv show, or a tv show that maybe should have been a movie. I hate the Eragon movie, they completely messed it up. It was such a good book, and they could have done so much better. Another series that I think would have been way better as a tv show is Vampire Academy. The books are dark, and the movie was made into a comedy, and they completely missed the entire feel of the book.
Are there any books you wished were never adapted, or any that you wish was a tv show or vice versa? And I guess on the opposite side of thing are there any movies that fit perfectly with the book? I would love to hear yโ€™alls thoughts!

Ooh Iโ€™ve got a few in mind!
Iโ€™ve read some of the members here talk about that movie/book, but Iโ€™ve never seen/heard of it before! I probably wonโ€™t even bother checking it bc if the reviews everyoneโ€™s saying about it.

I really loved reading โ€œFive Feet Apartโ€! Then watching it in the theaters was great! Iโ€™m glad they turned that book into a movie. Another favorite of mine would have to be โ€œThe Sun Is Also A Starโ€.
The book was so good I read it in one sitting! When I found out that was becoming a movie I was super stoked! The movie did an excellent job following the book!

I saw that the show Vampire Diaries was a book, but I didnโ€™t get into it bc they werenโ€™t really getting any positive feedback, but the show was fantastic!!!

I agree, Eragon was not a good screen adaptation at all. I also think the way they adapted Lightning Theif to the big screen was pretty garbage. The book was fantastic and the movie really didnโ€™t do it justice.
As for books that worked well as a movie, Fight Club and Shawshank Redemption are the two that come to mind for me. All of the performances in those movies are top notch. I think how well a book adapts to film depends heavily on the acting performance. We essentially already know the story from reading the book, but itโ€™s up to the actor to make someone believe they are indeed THAT character. A common theme with these bad adaptations is shit acting.

Oh yeah! I think I blocked out the lighting thief and Sea of Monsters. Percy Jackson was one of my favorite series, and the movies sucked!! I havenโ€™t read fight club, and donโ€™t kill me, but I havenโ€™t even watched Shawshank redemption yet.
And I completely agree with the actors making us believe that character, but I think itโ€™s also up to the screen writer to get that feeling that we love from the books into the movie as well. If you write a comedy movie based on a book thatโ€™s isnโ€™t a supposed to be funny it just ruins it in my opinion.

Another movie seriesโ€™s they messed up was divergent. The books were fantastic, and they completely messed up the story in movie two which in its own isnโ€™t not a bad movie, but not the movie it should have been.

I also like what they did with the Maze Runner Series. They changed it up but it worked over all with the series, and Dylan Oโ€™brien did a fantastic job as the main character.

I don't believe it is possible to make a movie that is faithful to the book. They are two completely different mediums, and film adaptations should be looked at objectively without having to make comparisons.

Fair enough, but as an avid reader I do like the movies to at least stay true to the story. But I also understand when they need to change it up a bit to get people more interested in the movies and tv series. But if you are going to adapt a book at least keep the story, and the feel of the book the same.
