When I first started collecting, I paid $25 for the boomstick edition of Army of Darkness. I thought that was a lot back then, especially when I saw it for $8 later on at BestBuy.

The way I was able to build up a decent collection was by being frugal as fuck. I'd never pay more than $10 for any single movie dvd. I'd always wait until I saw it on sale, or use a coupon, or something. These days, I can hardly justify buying anything even out of the $3.74 bin at walmart.

If something is out of print and there's no other way to see it, I do sometimes spend a lot. But I can't believe some of the prices for new blu-rays now. Like those ones from Scream Factory. I mean they're great sets and everything, but a lot of them are over $30, and they're not hard movies to find for cheap. I can't justify paying that much for an upgrade.

Ouch! I got burned by that overrated piece of shit, too. I didn't spend no $100 but a little over 50, I think. I might have paid more for something at some point, but that's the most expensive one I can think of. Just annoying and fucking nerve racking, that movie. Not enjoyable at all.

It seems all of its notoriety comes from the mystery that used to surround it. For a long time nobody had any idea who made it, and I guess some though it might have been an actual snuff film. Of course the truth has since come out that it is nothing more than an extremely amateurish exploitation film.

I rarely spend very much on a single film, a tenner is generally my upper limit. But I did go near £20 for a VHS of Sonny Boy (the Carradine as a woman etc. one). Neat film, and apparently the UK VHS is longer than the old US VHS release.

I don't think I've ever spent more than $30. I can't bring myself to pay more for a single movie, even if it's OOP. Synapse's upcoming, non-steelbook Blu-ray of Suspiria is going to be $44. Sure, it's 4K and has a plethora of extras, but that's still too much for me.

Around $100 for an original Japanese VHS of I Drink Your Blood.

Spent around $80 on Begotten brand new. Call me crazy but if i had 50 more lives i would have done the exact same choice in all of them. I didn't even watch the damn movie, it's just the cover i absolutely love it for some strange reason.

I don't know the cover is oddly compelling to me but there's more to this, not only this is OOP obviously, but it's one of the rarest dvds out of there, if you are lucky nowadays to find a used copy (new is out of the question) for this it never goes below 3 digit prices. It's one of those experimental type of horror flicks, i will watch it eventually and the story on how it was filmed is fascinating :

"Filming took place over a period of three and a half years in several different locations, with Merhige filling multiple roles in the film's production including working on the film's cinematography, and special effects. The film was shot using a 16mm Arriflex camera on black and white reversal film. While filming, Merhige would experiment with the film reel to give it an old, withered look. This included running the unshot negative through sandpaper in order to scratch it up before shooting. Still unsatisfied with the overall effect, Merhige decided to use an optical printer but was unable to find one within the film's budget. He then constructed one himself using old, spare parts that he acquired from camera stores and special effects houses.[4] The film was shot in several different locations, the majority of which took place on a construction site on the border between New York City, and New Jersey for a period of 20 days"

I thought that cover looked familiar. Messiah recently added it to Trash Epics Theater. I'll probably watch it within the next couple days.

$50-ish (incl shipping) for a Canadian Ginger Snaps DVD. at the time (maybe even still?) it was the only way to get it in widescreen.

can't remember any specific wallet buster for a single flick so i guess no more than £20, however i feel compelled to reply to this post just to say Begotten is a piece of shit.

I guess the Blu-ray of Dolls I think it was a little over $20. Obviously because it is one of my favorites and 2 I really wanted to have those neat extras that won't find if you would go for a download or cheaper DVD version. Also I got it from the US as it was only available in region A, maybe it's also in region B now but I doubt that. Positive though I see more and more blu-rays for all regions. Anyway good I have a multiregion blu ray player.

About £50, won't go above that, for two Winans (INK & The Frame) bundles. Both worth it but it's rare I'd spend that much usually as I rarely go above £5 for a film.

$40 or so on Martin (1978) 7 or 8 years ago. It was a blind buy too. It is full of extras and posters. I really liked it. Although I wont pay that much for any DVD/BLU-ray now.
