Freddy Kruger's last stand vs. the same of Michael Myers.
By now, I'm fully aware that most people don't respect the final Halloween entry.

But don't you people at least appreciate it more than the New Nightmare?

image

Both films are about an unstoppable killer getting mass publicity
(there's the connection you people were seeking).
The difference is that (with the exception of Busta Rhymes), Resurrection has the decency to take itself seriously.

In New Nightmare, you basically have a film parodying it's killer
(in the sense that Krueger is getting stronger with each and every film).
Freddy fared better when he was simply relying on dreams.
Also, this "film within a film" approach worked much better in Scream, in my horror opinion.

Halloween Resurrection is tough to beat: You have horny teens, suspense, and Busta Rhymes "busting up" some people.

New Nightmare: 4/10
Halloween Resurrection: 7.5/10

I'm sorry but I have to disagree...Busta makes that film unwatchable JMO. Busta makes LL Cool J in H20 look like an Academy Award Best Actor winner.

I hear ya, man.
It's just, he reminds me of Fred Williams in Mean Johnny Barrows, pretending to know kung-fu.
In the words of Rampage Jackson, he "whoop that ass".

Hey we all like what we like and have our own opinions. As far as New Nightmare goes I use to have a pretty high opinion of it but upon recently having a refresher of it, that opinion has since receeded quite a bit.

Resurrection is the worse movie, but New Nightmare annoys me with it's refusal to be part of the series. The fact that more people aren't annoyed by it also annoys me.

Even though it has to be viewed as its own movie away from the rest of the series, I prefer New Nightmare. It was a different idea for a series that had run its course, much like Jason Goes to Hell was for the Friday the 13th franchise. I guess those types of sequels will always divide fans. Fans who are bored with the same old thing and fans who may or may not be bored but never wanted that much of a change.

Busta Rhymes will never be a selling point for me on a movie. He's not Halloween: Resurrection's only problem, but he's a big one. I believe the other big problem (besides the Akkads) is Rick Rosenthal. After listening to his commentary on Halloween II, I felt like he didn't give a shit about that movie and it makes me wonder if he just did Resurrection for the money. Never listened to his commentary on Resurrection though, maybe he's more enthusiastic there.

I will admit, one part I do enjoy about Resurrection is the opening with Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie one final time. Fun little moment.

Heard that Busta wasn't going to appear in Resurrection unless it was written into his contract that he would get to kick Mike Myers ass...

New Nightmare is a bit of a meta mess, tho i do like the opening sccene with the fx guys n the hand. Both flicks are bad, but stupid fun.

New Nightmare is one of the best, if not the best entry in the Elm Street franchise. Ressurection is pure shit.

I like New Nightmare. I think the "self aware" horror approach was cool. Seeing Englund do the talk show as Freddy in the film's reality was cool to see in a Nightmare movie. The movie feels like a nightmare movie.

H Resurrection is the worst of the series. Everything that made Halloween what it was absent from this entry.

New Nightmare disappoints on the killing front. From memory, unforgivably less on screen than the original film, and having Freddy kill Robert Englund should have been a no-brainer. Otherwise I find it a lot of fun. For me it goes about meta-horror the right way, witty (but not parodic), imaginative and light, actually elevating its subject matter. I'm far less keen on Scream's approach. Plus the couple of kills it does have are solid and the climax is a cracker. After the dire parody of Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, a great way to wind up the series. 7/10

Halloween Resurrection by contrast I find a waste of time. There's the truly bad Busta Rhymes of course, but worse than that the whole thing feels incredibly cynical (from the opening out) and rushed off, like nobody involved behind the camera or scenes really cared about the work. Next to no effective atmosphere, imagination, suspense or wit, and tame kills to boot. 3/10

I never got around to seeing New Nightmare (which is actually pretty weird) but it's hard for me to imagine a movie worse than Halloween: Resurrection.

Really?! Get on that, man! I actually think "New Nightmare" is a fantastic movie, and I think this thread is like comparing gold to dog shit.

New Nightmare is a solid movie, and probably the best Elm Street sequel. After Part 3.

I will. I really love the first Nightmare on Elm Street, and Part 3 is probably my favorite horror sequel ever (unless we count Dawn of the Dead).
