Alllll righty then, we have the coronavirus to worry about. Beautiful. Just... beautiful. It sounds like, over the course of this month, things should get a hell of a lot scarier. So, what better time to watch horror movies, or sci-fi movies, dealing with plagues, or general viral outbreaks? Or TV shows, or books... I'm not being too picky here. Just generally any kind of story we can find out there that has some kind of plague going on. What comes to mind for you? I'll throw out a few. If you have anything to say about any of these, or any movies of your own, fire away. I know there are shitloads of movies about vampire and zombie plagues, so I don't know whether to count too many of them. I included a few. I guess if they are of high quality, then include them? Your call.

Twelve Monkeys (1995, and also 2015-2018)
Contagion (2011)
Outbreak (1995)
The Stand (1994, and hopefully this year for the new version)
I Am Legend (2007)
The Last Man on Earth (1964)
The Omega Man (1971)
Quarantine (2008)
REC (2007)
Resident Evil (2002)
Daybreakers (2009)
Cabin Fever (2002)
28 Days Later (2002)
28 Weeks Later (2007)
Masque of the Red Death (1964)
The Decameron (1971)

12 Monkeys is the animal virus equivalent to Terminator. I love it. Never watched the show though. Don't see the appeal.

The concepts of Outbreak (combined with the scenes I'd seen as a kid) scared the hell out of me back then. Don't know if I'd be phased now.

Last Man on Earth is classic Vincent Price gold.

Cabin Fever is great. The remake sucks my sweaty asshole.

And finally, I LOVE 28 Days/Weeks later. I think those were some fantastic movies, and why they never went on longer, I'll never know. I'm still waiting for 28 Months Later! At this rate, it'll be more like 28 Years Later.

I remember watching some George Buck Flower movie "The Alpha Incident", and if you had the infection and fell asleep, you'd kerplode. Not terrible.

Here's a list of "infection" titles on TE:

they showed this on the National Geographic channel last summer. I thought it was pretty good. They were actually pretty balanced and thoughtful in how they portrayed the decisions, discussions, and just the general all-around drama in the situations they show. Scary stuff, and it's all true, by the way. This isn't fiction.

Mimic (1997) started out as a plague type of situation. Mira Sorvino's character bred the "Judas breed" of cockroaches because somehow that would stop other cockroaches from speading a disease that killed children. Maybe they interbred with the normal cockroaches, I'm not sure.... Remember, in the beginning of the movie, they showed the wards full of children in covered beds, having great difficulty breathing? In some ways that was the scariest part of the movie.

I like REC
Resident Evil was fun for 1 view but only because I played the videogame.
Last Man on Earth is a classic nothin too spectacular though

Daybreakers was meh
Cabin Fever even more meh.
28 Days later I found real crap so didn't bother with the sequel. if anything exciting happens you don't see shit. Even worse than Blair Witch Project and I hate that movie with passion.

Seems I'm not such a big fan of these movies.

The children (1980) well that counts I think, it's crap but at least it's fun. Who Could Kill a Child (1976) that's one of the best I think.
But if you want something fucked up there is Ebola Syndrome (1996) from Hong Kong.

I'm a big fan of the first Resident Evil movie. As the franchise progressed, they got too into the fight scenes with all the ninja kung fu crap. I appreciate that type of scene to some extent, but, Jesus, they just got completely carried away with it, and lost sight of the T-virus plotline. Also, some of the things they have Wesker do just make so little sense that it ended up turning me off the later movies, even though I really hoped to, and wanted to, like and enjoy them.

I personally think 28 Weeks Later is a lot better than 28 Days Later. I bet you'd be glad if you gave it a chance.

Isle of the Dead is good one from the black and white era. It's from the director/producer of the Cat People movies and with Boris Karloff.
