Another October done and dusted. Firstly a big congrats to all of those who managed to complete the challenge and hit that magic 31 (and waaaayyyy beyond for many). I for one literally left it to the last minute emoticon. But well done 1. Ballz and 2. Vince for trouncing everyone again and also to Troma for the most FTVs. Here are the results in full:

SMASHED IT!
Ballz - 114 (53)
Vince - 109 (27)
Troma - 80 (58)
Nicko - 62 (36)
Box - 57 (50)
jimb - 56 (55)
conditioned - 44 (18)
Brett - 43 (22)
Deferenz - 40 (26)

PASSED THE TEST!
Zombie - 35 (31)
Shroud - 34 (21)
Baseball - 32 (16)
zed - 31 (31)
Trigger - 31 (27)
markus - 31 (19)

FELL AT THE HURDLE!
Onyx - 17 (9)

So what was your favourite FTV? And your least favourite?

Favourites:
Pearl (2022) - Probably one of the best performances you will ever see in any horror movie. Ever.
Barbarian (2022) - Wasn't a huge fan of the "third act" but still one of the best horror movies of the year without question.
Terrifier 2 (2022) and The Sadness (2021) - Both contain some of the most brilliant (and downright disturbing) practical gore you will ever see.

Least favourite: Halloween Ends (2022) - Michael hires an apprentice! emoticon

Least Fav: 7/10 Mad God (2021) 83mins, chore to watch

I also found Mad God a bit of a chore to sit through but I also gave it 7/10 for the fact it was stop motion and I appreciated what they did with it.

Yes technically you cannot find fault a new highwater mark, but fuck if you're gonna spend X number of years on a project start with a good solid tale. Im saying this as someone working on a multiyear game without a good solid tale

Great turn out this year. One of my most enjoyable challenges yet. I saw plenty that I've enjoyed, a few pleasant surprises that I thought I'd hate but didn't (Candyman, Jennifer's Body), and only a few I zoned out to or straight up didn't like.

Faves:
Halloween Ends - straight-up unique entry
Firestarter - good ol' Stephen King shit
Barbarian - slow burn and engaging

Least Faves:
They/Them - stupid lgbt garbage
When a Stranger Calls - boring

I'll probably give out some TE points for this challenge eventually, even though I'm still a few challenges behind on that.

My two favourite FTV's were both phone related. Mr Harrigan's Phone (2022) and The Black Phone (2021). I liked the fact that both were character driven and so it meant more when things happened to them.

I actually watched The Black Phone on the plane travelling from London to New Orleans. I also watched the new Firestarter on that flight too but I didn't really think too much of that one.

Haha, even at 37,000 feet you have to keep the October Challenge going!

Mr Harrigan's Phone (2022) and The Black Phone (2021) are quite similar, both felt very made for non horror film waychers and a bit slow TBH

My favorite came at the very end with Barbarian (2022), narrowly beating out Orphan: First Kill. Also really enjoyed Sprial, Black CIrcle Boys, Halloween Ends and Bloody Muscle Body Builder In Hell.

Finally watched the Wizard Of Gore remake after owning the dvd for about 12 years. Originally didn't make it too far, but thought I'd start over and finally get it out of the way... Yeah, fuck that movie! Also didn't care for Nanny's Night, Silent Night Bloody Night 2, The Horrible Sexy Vampire and Monster From The Oean Floor.

Seems that pretty much everyone here who watched Barbarian during the challenge thought it was good. You usually get at least one who goes against the general consensus but hey, I guess Johan wasn't around for this year's challenge emoticon.

Pity you didn't get around to watching Terrifier 2, imagine you would've enjoyed that one too.

Not everyone loved Barbarian. I noticed jimbo gave it a 2/5.

Where the hell did Johan go though?

Oh I didn't notice that. Well then, there is always one.

Yeah I thought Johan would've shown up for the challenge at least.

Yeah I don't get it. Other than some unintentional laughs I found it pretty useless. One of the few movies I watched with my wife as I thought it would be up her alley with all the praise it was getting but she thought it kind of sucked too.

Favorite was probably WNUF Halloween Special. This may become a yearly viewing. Also really enjoyed Werewolf by Night, Last Night in Soho, Censor, Demon Seed, Kolobos, Black Phone, Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane, and Halloween Ends.

Least favorite: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) by far. Zombie Massacre and Hellmaster kind of sucked too. Really didn't like Barbarian either which I seem to be the only one.

I liked TCM'22 just fine. I see a lot of hate for it, but I enjoyed it enough. Not like that series has any continuity or standards to live up to at this point. I will agree that Hellmaster was some horse shit though.
