I feel like this one has always been a little underrated. I like the perverted religious theme of this movie. The cornfield adds atmosphere. There is also the battle for power between Issac and Malachi that is very interesting. Linda Hamilton shines in this one too.

This movie isn't great, but at the same time, I feel that it has had a somewhat substantial impact on the horror genre. In retrospect, this movie is definitely the best of the entire series, because as you must know, there are too many of these movies. Not sure why this movie was thought of as franchise material, but it ended up that way, and while most of the sequels are turds, the original is still a somewhat decent movie.

I can agree that the cornfields add a great atmosphere to the movie. I feel that King revisited this theme, and even has a new movie out called "In the Tall Grass" which has a similar setting. Haven't seen it yet, but I plan to. I love a good rural horror setting, and this one has just that. Crazy to think that Linda Hamilton made this the same year that she did Terminator.

I'm happy to say that I met Courtney Gains, who played Malachai. Though, being a man of trash, I talked to him about Poolboy rather than this movie, because Poolboy is an epic piece of shit. I love it with a vengeance.

So yeah... the original CotC is a decent flick. It's a shame that the sequels are so lackluster.

I like this movie, although the franchise clearly did not sustain the value or high standards of the first film for very long (at all). The background music is dependably creepy, so, that's good. The whole movie is right up there with the intro to Halloween 4, when it comes to making rural America spooky as hell.

I just posted something somewhere in the last few days, wondering about who/what the hell He Who Walks Behind The Rows was supposed to be. The children think it's God, and it's clearly SOMETHING, but not God. Did Stephen King have anything specific in mind? Some kind of pagan demon, or possibly even some local Native American spirit, being misinterpreted by the children?!?!? Corn is native to the Americas, right? No, it can't be that, it would have to be something from the Judeo-Christian tradition. Something twisted, that's for sure.

There was a 2009 version that I thought stayed closer to the spirit of the original story in some ways. Not for the whole movie, but, at times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children_of_the_Corn_(2009_film)

I saw a kid at a subway stop a few years ago, who looked just like Malachi. I wanted to yell OUTLANDERRRRRR!!!! at him. I held back.

In 2016, during the early Republican primaries, I used to post this scene somewhere... probably here, and/or on our old IMDB board, and/or on Facebook. I was trying to be funny, saying that this scene captured the moment when Trump stole any political momentum that Ted Cruz might have managed to build up, and started really consolidating his hold on the GOP. I seriously pissed a lot of people off by doing that, sooooo that was just swell. Anyway, this is the scene. youtube

Parts of it were filmed in my home town of Sioux City Iowa. (Pronounced "soo," not "sy-owks." Actually had someone say it like that.)
Plus a few other small towns nearby. I believe the corn field scenes were shot in Hornick, IA.
