I will only comment on 2018 for now, as I have seen most of those films quite recently (obviously).

Mandy, Apostle and Cam were all worth watching. I would add the following; Upgrade, Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum.

Of yours, I enjoyed most: The House that Jack Built, Hereditary, The Haunting of Hill House, Halloween, A Quiet Place, Incident in a Ghostland, Annihilaton.

I thought the following were just ok: Unfriended: Dark Web, Unsane, Overlord (a better war movie than a horror).

I thought The Predator was one of the most recklessly stupid movies I've seen in a long time and it does not deserve to be on any list imo (along with Alien: Convenant). Take a franchise and shit on it why don't they..

I thought Bird Box was thoroughly daft from the start and therefore it lost me completely by the midway point (it is way longer than it has any right to be). A lot of people like that movie here for reasons beyond me. Not a patch on A Quiet Place for me.

I haven't seen The Nun, Truth or Dare or Winchester yet because they're supposed to be rubbish. I think even Nicko rated those low (for him), so they must be bad..

I felt Unfriended: Dark Web was on par with the first - a creative and effective outing, if not a tad disturbing.

I seen Upgrade. I didn't add it cause I felt it was more action/sci-fi then horror, but I won't argue otherwise.

Alien Covenant, like Prometheus, seems more concerned with pleasing visuals than anything else. I did like them though

Yeah, maybe I was too generous with The Predator. Another day it may not have got on my list, that is why it was near the bottom of that year for me. I love the Predator films, so I gave it the best possible chance. I would probably come in at around a 6 for me. Same with the The Nun, it started off well, nice Romanian scenery, promising start, but it soon became a typical James Wan generic film, but enough to get a 6 from me.

I liked Truth or Dare. I liked the concept of a demon infiltrating a game, that was clever, a lot of fun. Kinda reminded me of Final Destination. Winchester was decent, started off well, maybe I would have liked it to go in a different direction, but decent film.

I also really liked Bird Box. That said, the conclusion is awful with a ridiculous sanctuary and leaves the viewers with many questions and no answers.

I don't mind ambiguity or things left unexplained. I don't mind "happy" endings either. But for this particularly movie, I felt annoyed/cheated that we don't get anything remotely close to an answer/explaination. It's like the storytellers had no clue either (although I believe the book it is based on explains things more). The worst thing about the movie for me though, is that at no point did I feel any tension, unlike in A Quiet Place.

Great list!! Thank you for this, I like this kind of thing. I'm gonna come up with several dozen unprecedentedly brilliant things to say about all this, but right now I am trying to heat up some frozen french fries without burning my apartment building down.
