In memory of Don Rickles, I watched his "The Ventriloquist's Dummy" episode, directed by Richard Donner and starring Bobcat Goldthwait. This show was all about great guest stars and directors.

A few days before that, I watched Arnold's "The Switch" about the old man (William Hickey) who trades body parts with a young man (Rick Rossovich) to win his woman's heart.

Throughout seven seasons, they've had a ton of great episodes. Another of my favorites off the top of my head would be Walter Hill's "Cutting Cards" with Lance Henriksen and Kevin Tighe.

Here's a reference for you:

Is this the best horror anthology out there? I think the most notable competitor would be Tales from the Darkside, but I haven't seen many episodes of that series... YET!

One of my favorites is also Cutting Cards.

I've always loved the first three episodes: The Man Who Was Death, And All Through the House, and Dig That Cat... He's Real Gone. That might seem like a lazy answer, but I think they're some of the best in the series.

Three's a Crowd and The Thing From the Grave are a couple more I enjoy. I remember a lot of the first two seasons being pretty good really.

Some year, I'll read through the EC comics the stories came from. Got all of them downloaded somewhere.

Tales from the Darkside has its share of great episodes and suave guest stars, but I've always preferred Crypt. Probably because not all of Darkside's episodes are horror.

Hard to pick a favourite but other than some already mentioned I like Carrion Death, People Who Live in Brass Hearses and The New Arrival.

Certainly the ones listed but I watched the series not long ago and three definitely stand out for me.

ONLY SKIN DEEP- Simple, elegant and I feel actually one of the more disturbing episodes about a guy picking up a 'masked' chick at a Halloween party. Given the main male lead is most definitely a dick there's something beautifully karmic about this episode and I loved the mystery that built around Molly. Disturbing but one of those that really sticks out for me.

ABRA CADAVER- I just love the entire concept of this episode. A brother pulling a trick on his other brother, the consequences and what he does in retaliation. Honestly the thought of someone being dead but seeing, hearing the world around them especially during an autopsy. Ye gods, I think it taps well into that fear we all have of what follows death. Yeah the ending is a little predictable but still such a good episode imo.

FOREVER AMBERGRIS - anything with Buscemi is guaranteed to grab my attention and oh this doesn't disappoint me. I mean the concept is nothing new, guy is jealous of his rival who isn't just better at the job but as the woman he wants and whilst in central america gets that opportunity. In a show that often is about the gore I still think this is one that amps up the disgusting factor - especially when Buscemi's character, Ike, starts to fall apart quite literally. It's a slow horrific death and the revenge in this is solid, I love how it's meted out.

Sorry for the long spiel emoticon but those would be my choices.

I do like the cadaver episode with Tony Goldwyn. An impractical joke that doesn't end well. They never do!

I would say Crypt is neck and neck with Darkside. Darkside isn't as overall consistently great as Crypt is, but Darkside is more disturbing and weird in my opinion, when it was at its best.

I haven't seen Tales from the Crypt in many years. In the old, old days of the series life, it used to be on HBO and living at my grandparents at the time, they only had Cinemax and The Movie Channel. When HBO would do one of those free weekend things, I was able to catch it. The first episode I ever saw was, I believe, Carrion Death, at my cousin's house during a Christmas party. It's still one of my favorite episodes.

When Crypt moved to Fox in '94 (I think?) My mom and I would watch it every week. One of the best episodes I remember from that era of the show was Comes the Dawn.

Another great episode, I forget the name, is the one where the gigolo would kill all these rich old ladies and then at the end they returned from the grave (what?! this never happens!!!) to get their revenge in all their rotten, decayed glory.
