Bernie Wrightson - fantastic comic book artist and co-creator (w/ writer Len Wein) of Swamp Thing passed away on March 18. I haven't seen much fanfare about it, but Wrightson also did some incredible b/w artwork for a comic version of Frankenstein. When I say incredible, I mean incredibly detailed. I haven't figured out the image posting thing here yet but you can see an example at:

As Wrightson was fond of saying, "Welcome and stay eerie!" i hope he found some like-minded souls wherever he is now.

Definitely resembles Swamp Thing. I've always been terribly fond of the original two Swamp Thing films, and the single episoode cartoon (never found the follow-ups). Dick Durock was the man, too. Same goes for Nicholas Worth, Wes Craven, and David Hess. It's a shame that all the legends of Swamp Thing are passing on.

I used to have a bunch of swamp thing toys when I was a kid.

Yeah, his Frankenstein's monster is a little Swampy. Personal style.

I like those two Swamp Thing films too. Durock also played him in a live-action TV show. It was geared more towards kids with moral lessons - but that fit in very well with the original character. I watched the first disc from netflix but cancelled my subscription before I could watch any more. Swamp Thing toys sound awesome.

He was my favorite comic artist ever. I was fortunate enough to meet him a few times. I have Swamp Thing 1-10 signed by him and a few other odd ball stuff. Really sweet guy. RIP

I have a sweet Frankenstein Alive Alive print as well. When I get my house set up, I will post pics of my Wrightson shit.

I've seen lots of his work before, but didn't know the name... never connected the dots. Excellent detail as yiu said. RIP Mr Wrightson.

There was a late 80s early 90s comic artist whose work reminds me of his. Can't think of the main comic I had of his back in the 90s. It was a real violent, mayhem thing though.

If you ever recall who that other comic artist is let me know, peeps. I don't read comix much anymore - but great artwork will often draw me in.

Been trying to think of the comic ever since I posted.... it was in B&W similar in detailed style to Wrightson, very violent (eyeballs being gouged out, etc), likely supernatural and a one-word title/one-syllable, if memory is correct. I bought it wen it came out ~1989-91. I'll keep thinking. emoticon

He also illustrated for Stephen King: Creepshow adaptation, Cycle Of The Werewolf, Dark Tower V

A few months ago I was reading one of the Creepy Arhives, there was a letter from the editor from a teen aged Bernie!

When I read old comics I always read the letter section and wonder what happened to some of those guys. Bernis was a fan like Harlan Ellison in the sci/fi world who managed to realize his dream.
