I listen to the radio on the way to work. The classic rock station is the default. It's familiar and comforting. But damn, they need to play the OTHER STUFF every once in a while! There are so many songs I'm getting so sick of hearing multiple... times... every... fucking... day. GNR is so overplayed. ACDC is overplayed. I'm so sick of their "hits", but these are also the songs being put in every movie soundtrack now. Thor 4 had four overplayed GNR radio songs in it, for god's sake. And if a movie tries to be cool by playing "Back in Black", I'm going to barf.

Don't get me wrong. I don't hate these bands. I crave that they get known for their better songs that that DJ keeps under lock and key. Anyone tuning in would only hear Judas Priest's "Living After Midnight" and think of them as a mediocre rock band. They wouldn't know that Judas Priest is a hardcore metal band, because those songs are never played. I also hate how the people calling in requests are requesting the same old songs, day in, day out. Have some dignity, people!

It's not a bad song. I'd hardly call it hardcore though. Personally I think that whole NWOBHM scene just all sounds way too corny for me. I've tried, but I really can't get into stuff like Judas Priest or Iron Maiden.

As far as radio goes, I don't think I've ever listened to it intentionally. No matter what station you listen to, it's just a few of the same songs played on a loop all day. I just stick to the ever expanding library I have cultivated for myself.

I used to have a library of songs, but my computers that had them have all died and I'm far too lazy to download all that mess again. That might explain my lack of musical exploration in the past decade, and why I force myself to listen to the radio still, otherwise I'd probably never hear music again. Youtube is alright, but they also tend to repeat whatever's been played in my history. I used to listen to I Heart Radio until that app kept crashing on me.

When a metal band gets too "hardcore" hardcore for me, they start to sound like caricature of themselves. I can't get into a lot of them, but the NWoBHM always sat well with me. I started it early in my musical endeavors, so I'm probably biased.

I put the radio on some local classical station when I sleep. Other than that, haven't bothered listening to the radio at all since about 2003.

I'm honestly surprised radio is still a thing. Nice to know not everything goes away. Then again, radio is probably on borrowed time.

Radio waves will exist regardless of whether there are better alternatives. It's probably a thing for suckers like me who make a commute to work and don't have a phone of their own to use cellular data. So I shouldn't complain, but damnit! I will! People are so generic with their musical requests.

I find it very hard to believe that people are still calling requests in to a radio station in 2022. You want to hear a song, just go on YouTube or Spotify. You get it instantly.

I think it's more for the older generations who refuse to understand how to use phone apps. My mom still insists that she won't be able to figure out streaming services.
