Because somebody's got to host it.

No exceptional rules this year. 1 point per minute, movie or tv counts.

EDIT: It appears that the title of the thread isn't enough to indicate that the movies or shows watched must be of the SCI-FI or FANTASY genre.

Begins 12am September 1st
Ends 6am October 1st

The winner gets fakes money.

Which version of Saving Private Ryan is 249 minutes long? Must be the director's cut with the cameo from E.T.

I bet Spielberg used CGI to replace guns with flashlights in that version becasue he felt that Saving Priate Ryan was too violent.

Tromafreak can't math. It is 2 hours, 49 minutes which is 169 minues.

The Temple of Doom? I could understand Kingdom of the Crystal Skull because of the alien plot but I don't get this one.

It's voodoo dolls, cult possession, warlock heart ripping weirdness, and magical glowing stones that bring good luck. Sounds pretty fantastic to me.

@box how much fantasy or sci-fi aspects is needed for something to be eligible to count for this challenge?

Not much, but if an element of sci-fi or fantasy is crucial enough to affect the plot, it ought to count.

I am really not a fan of this vague approach to challenges where some people seem to look for "elements" rather than going for actual science fiction or fantasy movies. I mean it's not that difficult to find the movies. I know it's all supposed to be a bit of fun and maybe I take it too seriously but why have a themed challenege if certain people are not going to stick to it. There are some movies so far that clearly dont even have an element or if the individual thinks they do, then they've been smoking too much dope.

Hey, Temple of Doom IS fantasy, whether imdb counts it or not. All the Indy movies are fantasy because they involve magical items that do magical things. There's only one person not adhering to the rules, and I'm not sure what's going on there.

"Fantasy is a genre of speculative fiction set in a fictional universe." Indiana Jones is too based in the real world. The ark in Raiders is based on the actual Ark of the Covenant. The "magical" elements you speak of usually only occur or are revealed towards the end of the movies and are never really a big part of the main narrative. You're making up your own rules for what is fantasy. And that's fine, you're the mod but you won't find any reference to Indiana Jones being "fantasy adventure" on any site let alone IMDb. It ain't exactly Labyrinth or The Hobbit.

I wouldn't put up a great argument for Raiders or Last Crusade, but if wizards and voodoo mumbo jumbo isn't fantastic enough (and quite prominent in Temple of Doom), then I'm at a complete and utter loss.

Well maybe I will eat a slice of humble pie as apparently there is a subgenre called "low fantasy", although I had never heard of it before. Had you?
