We used to have some more regular contributers here who posted some good shit, then vanished off the face of the earth. People like BarkingBaphomet, Shadow-345, iceflamez, Atomichotwings, klownz, RedHawk10, sethyeah, slasherfan85, AlcoholicNinja, Moffat, and all those others who rarely/never posted, but at least lurked. Anybody know what hole they all crawled into?

I'd think that some of the political talk scared 'em off, but even after the government calmed down and there was no talk of this shit, that didn't seem to make a difference anymore. People stayed gone, and things got a bit stagnant.

So where did they all migrate to? Internet addicts like that don't simply "get a life" and move on, or move to facebook. Most of the aforementioned users don't even frequent the other imdb knockoff sites, so wtf happened to the age of internet forums? How do we get that back? How do we bring the old blood back here, and how do we get new blood?

I think of this stuff sometimes, and it makes me sad. I miss the days when there was too much activity for me to keep up with, and people were excited to see what an alternative website could offer them. I guess they didn't find it here.

What I noticed when IMDb went away was how literally dozens of people joined here and never did anything with their accounts. In hindsight, that was worrying when I look back on it. It really sucks that we have lost so many good posters. I don't think there is any way to get those users back. We just have to hope that we don't lose anymore. To some extent I am not as active here as I was i.e creating threads. It seems that as the months go by we lose a few more users. Unfortunately, people didn't see T.E as a alternative to IMDb. What is suprising is that people like Shaza and Redhawk, who were very good friends with some people here ran away. Have you tried messaging these old users to get them back?

Well, I think Shaza definitely "got a life" emoticon. Last time I spoke to her, she said she hardly kept up with horror releases, which was a shame.

No, I think they did just turn to FB, got a life, got butthurt over politics, never gave a fuck about anyone but themselves, or just didn't exist in the first place. And whatever else you can think of, it's probably that too. My advice would be to get used to people letting you down out of the blue with no reason given, cuz it clearly never ends.

The art of conversation is dead. A sign of the times, maybe?

Now, excuse me while I go upload a pic of lunch and await likes and followers.

That's what a lot of it is, huh? People like the convenience of doing trivial things like that, but I could never get into that. Tweets and instagram and followers always seemed so shallow to me. Those aren't friends, and those aren't significant topics. I hate (most) memes, I hate those posts that are just people fishing for compliments, and I hate how conversation is dead.

I blame mobile devices. As much as I love having this stuff with me wherever I go, the lack of a keyboard is probably what keeps a lot of people from saying much, and going down that shorthand texting route. I've always wanted a roll-out keyboard so I can go on rants when I'm in public, but I still haven't gotten one.

I've had it in mind to add more mobile-friendly functionalities to the site, including rip-off stuff like twitter and facebook skins, but at the same time, I don't want to promote that lack of discussion. I don't want to replace dialogue with short, improper spelling.

Being that I don't own a computer, all my posting is always done on my phone. I've gotten pretty good at it, heh.

Yeah, I love having my phone with me too, having Google with me at all times in case I wanna find info on something, etc. It's great. I dunno how I got around to places I'd never been before prior to Maps. (Lol)

I hear you on all this social media meme-type crap and the jargon that goes along with it. People are losing their identities because every one wants to fit in and be identical. The more the world heads toward this social media bullshit, the more I wanna do the opposite. The more I want to ignore memes. I like being an outsider.

You used the perfect word to describe all this: shallow. It's all shallow and superficial as fuck.

I'm pretty sure most of them are around somewhere but where is a lucky guess. I know a few are on ICM such as psychotronicbeatnik and peeptoad. I think they were put off mostly by the politics. Not sure where Smerd has headed too. Klownz is on my Letterboxd following and I think he is roaming around on several places but not here.

I guess Callum and heySweden are on fb groups and the latter possibly on the imdb v2 if that still exists. I haven't bothered to check it and somehow I can't rejoin as I was booted once. If the site wasn't run by an imdb troll it could be something but also it was pretty much a lame copy of the old imdb boards with no special extras like TE has.

Too bad moviechat.org couldn't hit it off that seemed to have the most potential as it had the old content on the indivudual boards archived (and I still check those from time to time). When it finally got good people seemed to have settled in already somewhere else and the place attracts trolls easily I believe.

I have seen a few new names popped up though.

Klownz is on Twitter. He still has the same creepy avatar image he had on IMDB.

I saw iceflamez logged in and reading posts about a week ago in the late night early morning hours my time. It's a shame though, I miss posters like Peeps, Smerd and Atomichotwingz. People are busy with real life issues most likely.

yeah its a shame. i joined imdb horror board not long before it went down, so didnt know too many. those i did tho, the majority came here, which was awesome. guess people do get lives. smerd came back briefly awhile back, then left again. also miss peeps and psychobeats.

dont do fb, twitter, insta or any of that. am on discord and that along streaming sites like rabbit, seem to have overtaken forums as platforms for interaction. guess as it lends itself more toward immediacy in communication, a massive multi channel chatroom. that and people wanting to talk, cam, generally share stuff all the time. mainly younger gen i suppose, and im not massively keen on it myself.

that said, do find using those sites more and more often over TE. never write posts here about movies now, because ive already had live chat with people about it, or whatever.
its a bit sad, and i'll try to rectify with some drunken nonsense post onenight.

the recent drafts did ignite some activity, which is good. i tried to lure people here with them, but looks like everything everywhere all the time wins.

Yes, I agree with you, Fox, it is sad. I find myself more active on other sites these days too. Like you, I have tried to lure a few people here but they weren't interested. Johan's draft ignited some activity but you feel it has quieted down again. I use to post a lot of threads here but not so anymore. I am really into Letterboxd and those sites these days. I guess, for me, the rating system here didn't help.

Do you mean you don't like the traditional 5 star system? I asked before if people would prefer a 10 star system, but I got the impression that they probably wouldn't rate things either way. emoticon

What I mean, Box, is that for example with Letterboxd - there is a feature where you can upload all your ratings from IMDb in a matter of seconds. There all there. You see, Box, I am lazy bastard, and it is quite a daunting task to rate over four thousand titles, and more so with the traditional 5 star system. It is just more convenient for me, is all.

letterboxd is really good, a fine sub for imdb, andid rec everyone here get on it.

theirs isalso a five star one, but with half stars - essentially making it out of ten, or nine,i dunno.

the export thing shouldnt be an issue, ya lazy batsard!

Look into what? Importing your imdb ratings? Do you have them saved anywhere, and would you be okay with your 10 star votes rounded down to 5 star votes?

An import function for ratings via a CSV file that you can export from IMDB. It was just a suggestion to make it more user-friendly. I am on sites like ICheckMovies, Letterboxd and Criticker where you can import all your ratings in a second. Zed had this feature on his site too. It is the way to go. Letterboxd, like Foz has mentioned is terrific. Really great database there. It was just a radical idea to lure in interested parties.
