Amongst the horror genre, you'll find many different sub genres that may tickle your horror fancy. Supernatural, zombie, slasher, all that jazz. And then, we have Torture Porn.
This term was originally coined by Mr David Edelstein in an article on Hostel. Since then, I guess it's taken off, as it is frequently used to describe movies like Saw, Turistas, Wolf Creek and of course, Hostel. Despite the very much lack of PORN in these movies, they do involve quite a lot of torture. I suppose the added word, PORN to the title, merely means the use of violence is excessive and borderlined pornographic, or some shit like that. Not sure why they couldn't have just been called 'Torture' Movies, or extreme movies, but whatever. It is what it is. I still think it's a fucking ridiculous title for a sub genre though.
In my opinion, the REAL torture porn movies, actually contain torture and porn. Namely, Niku Daruma, and The Taming of Rebecca were more accurate depictions of Torture Porn. But if you see this term in a post or article, the majority of the time, they are referring to any movie post 2000s that contains a lot of torture in them. Whether they contain fictional, or non fiction sex scenes, appears to be irrelevant.
