I was thinking of starting with Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages (1922). I was also thinking of watching D@bbe (2006), Even the Wind Is Afraid (1968) and Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (1970) that same day. I will have a lot of time on my hands in October so I hope to see a few great movies.


Anyone have any idea what they are going to kick-off the Oct Challenge with?

I've always had a thing for Time Travel. Always found it fascinating ever since I watched the Back To The Future Trilogy as a kid. And, to me, it's what really makes the Terminator franchise so interesting. Anyone have any underseen recs for the challenge? what are your favorite time travel movies?

1) Watched The Giant Gila Monster (1959). A friend recommended this to me more than a year ago but I just now got to it. A fairly typical example of the low budget US monster genre of its time, with small town teens and the titular reptile. I seen The Dead Pit a few weeks ago, and to be honest - I wasn't expecting much from it, but I thought it was excellent. It is a dark, gloomy zombie flick that shares some similarities with Hellbound: Hellraiser II - that sense of dread throughout, and the evil doctor! From beginning to end, I found it fairly creepy. I am not sure if anyone else is a fan of it, but I loved it. My vote is 8!

Any thoughts on it?

Another one of those shark movies. Mostly just long winded footage of diving sequences, or people standing around on a boat or on a beach. The usual stock footage of Great White Sharks.

Some bad shark movies like Great White can be quite fun. This one is mostly dull.

I've got a solid list of potential titles. In terms of repeat viewings, I'm gonna revisit some French horror films from the 2000s, along with a bunch of Asian flicks that I haven't seen in a while.

Most of my first time viewings are going to be recent U.S. titles that I need to catch up on, along with my Japanese DVD blind buys and some other miscellaneous stuff.

Sure was a fast week.

My copy of Fox with a Velvet Tail came in the other day, so might just watch that tonight. Today at a flea market I picked up Black Rock, The Bye Bye Man and Hiss.

So, recently my parents did that Ancestry.com thing, and got the results, earlier. After decades of being told I'm 1/4 Cherokee, I find out I'm not Native American at all. Possibly a fraction of a percent, if anything. However, it's come to my knowledge that I'm 1% African. Also around half English, too, which was also surprising. If I'm not Cherokee, then, why the fuck do I look like this?

Anyone else ever send Ancestry.com their spit? Anyone ever get any similar surprises?

I've never been a big fan of the porno genre, myself. But I think I'm a little less of a fan after watching what I just watched. Although, calling this mess a porno would be a bit of a stretch. What this really is is the pinnacle of unintentional WTF filmmaking. The ultimate abomination from the bottom of the barrel. What a great movie.

Anyone else just really feel this movie on a personal level?

When this movie was screened at Sundance, it supposedly caused people to walk out in droves, many calling it the grossest movie ever made. So, of course, I had to see it. I'm sure most normal people would be disgusted, but I would bet most of the people on this board could handle it.

I've always wondered how could anyone not eat meat? Sure, killing animals is cruel, but they shouldn't taste so good, am I right?
