Any love for this one? I thought it was such a fantastic movie, i knew it was good beforehand (rewatch) but i forgot just how amazing it actually is and i don't usually dig supernatural horror flicks.
I can see where you are coming from with that comparison but Get Out worked better for me as a satire rather than actual horror something along the lines of Cabin in the Woods, i too thought The Skeleton Key was superior.
I like supernatural horror but find that it lends itself all too often to lame jump scares and goofy and/or overcomplicated explanations and endings, at least in examples that make it to proper wide releases. I was pleased by this one though. Old fashioned (or at least 90's TV horror style) quality story telling and suspense, likeable performers and a creepy climax. Should check it again myself one of these days.
If the supernatural element is used wisely and in moderation a horror flick that capitalizes on that can be super effective for me (i.e. The Skeleton Key). You should definitely rewatch, it was actually a 2nd rewatch for me across a decade span and it was as engaging and interesting as the first view.
I like this movie. It is mediocre. However, I love New Orleans, I have visited there 6 times in my life. I would move there is I could. I like any film that is based in that area. (Easy Rider, Double Jeopardy, The Last Exorcism 2)
I greatly prefer it over
