They were favorites when I was a kid. Ernest goes to Jail was my favorite. I recently watched that one, Goes to Camp, Saves Christmas, and Scared Stupid. They're still pretty funny. Jim Varney was brilliant at slapstick.

I was a big fan as a kid. Now, I just look abck on them as one great 80's comedy and then a bunch of attempts capitalizing on the success. Nothing after Ernest Goes To Camp does anything for me, now.

I still like these films. I'm sure most of it's nostalgia. If I hadn't seen them as kid there would be no way I would like them. My favorite is Ernest Scared Stupid and then next is Goes to Camp. My least favorite is probably Slam Dunk or the Army one.

I love Ernest Saves Christmas. I need to buy it, it hasn't been on tv for the past two winters.

He was the perfect choice to play Jed in The Beverly Hillbillies. One of the very rare times a movie based on an old tv show was done right.

I have the Hey Vern, Its Ernest! complete series DVDs. Christ I loved watching it as a kid! Its held up great. Its so fucking off the wall with the characters (Dust Bunny, Gailard Sartain and Bobby, Dr. Otto, and especially Auntie Nelda) and skits, I enjoy it even more now. It was just weird comedy. The greatest thing since The Great Space Coaster, which I have vague memories of watching. Griddle Gorilla and Gary Gnu with the gnews, anyone?

A couple of youtube vids for you horror movie folk.

I loved Ernest as a kid. Probably saw Jail and Camp most. I think even as a kid I knew the movies weren't great, but Jim Varney made Ernest such a loveable character, I didn't care about their questionable quality and still don't. It amazes me now how many sequels they made and they were even planning another before his health decline and death.
