Sounds pretty interesting.

It's obvious but to boil it down to basics if a shock movie shocks then it has achieved its goal.

Which I'm guessing is pretty hard these days when movies like the Vomit Gore Trilogy or stuff like Faces of Death are easily found online and the internet makes grindhouse and video nasty movies that outraged people back in the day fairly well established in the public conscious.

Whoever the writer for The Playlist as quoted below is they don't get to impose their own dislikes on others and call them out as bad people.

Murder is a cathedral, or a pointed arch, or art or something! Also, Goethe sat under the oak tree that grew in Buchenwald concentration camp and William Blake wrote about tigers and lambs โ€” such are the lofty topics discussed in Jackโ€™s voiced-over conversation with Verge, as in Virgil, writer of The Aeneid and Danteโ€™s guide to hell, here played by Bruno Ganz, an actor whose two most famous roles are Hitler and an angel.
...Riley Keoughโ€™s dim sexpot character who is actually in a relationship with Jack and whom he insists on calling โ€œSimple.โ€ Even before the mammary mutilation scene that is destined to live on in infamy, his verbal and psychological abuse of Simple is among the filmโ€™s ickiest elements, which is saying something considering there are also scenes of amateur taxidermy in which the body of a small boy is crudely fashioned into a little statue wearing a grotesque, carved-in grin.
So the structure is a kind of โ€œHuman Centipedeโ€ ass-to-mouth concertina of gruesome misogyny and utter tedium.
Here are just a few of the interest groups he works hard to offend repeatedly: women; law enforcement; anyone whoโ€™s ever defended him or one of his movies in the past (boy do we feel like idiots now); all his actors; people with children; people who were once children; art historians; classical scholars; Glenn Gould fans; serial killers; people with eyes; everyone who applauded him as he arrived at the filmโ€™s premiere; ducks; and of course the Cannes Film Festival selection committee.
Sitting in a room with the very people who banned von Trier โ€œfor lifeโ€ (actually 7 years) from this festival because of comments he made about understanding Hitler, and watching the long sequence in which Jack extols the brilliance of Nazi architect Albert Speer, over documentary footage of Speer and Adolf yukking it up, was certainly one of the more epic meta-trolls Iโ€™ve ever been privy to.
All of which guarantees that this tawdry, nasty little movie is destined to immediately attain cult status as a dog whistle for the particular brand of filmbro who will wear it as a badge of honor that somehow they โ€œgetโ€ it in a way that snowflake critics such as myself simply do not.
P.S. Hi there to the first #filmbrodude who devastates everyone with his witty bravado by replying with some variation on โ€œwow, even more stoked to see this now!โ€ Your prize is: you are a douchebag. xxx

I don't know. Real animal cruelty/mutilation immediately puts me off this movie, otherwise I would totally be in.

I can't wait. Hopefully he tops his in-your-face female circumcision from Antichrist.

Well apparently one character has her breasts sliced off.. so no doubt expectations will be well and truly met.

I like the way he has a vision and doesn't compromise his work. Never holds back any punches and won't change. Antichrist and Melancholia were great films and probably some of the most bashed films by critics at their time of release. He despises Hollywood but yet some of the biggest Hollywood stars go to Europe and get paid plenty less to work with him. Like David Lynch his use of esoteric ideas is masterful. I'll definitely see it in November when it gets released here in the States.emoticon
