It's pretty clear the series hit a stride with Parts 3 and 4, then 6 and 7. These feel like the films that set up and use the Jason archetype that the series is best known for.

So why is part 5 generally considered an odd one out in that run?

Is it merely the Jason copycat angle?

Personally I find it up to par with the other Friday sequels in that era, I may even prefer it to Part 4 and 7.

Ethel's son on the motorbike, what was going on in that scene? Freakin' hilarious.

This one is my favorite. With the exception of the ending, I don't see why so many look down on part 5. I find it to be the most fun and entertaining of the series. Nevermind the fact that it also has the highest body count. Better/dumber cast, too, imo.

The scene where the one kid goes apeshit during a fight is almost funny enough to save this movie. Almost.

I do believe it has to do with the copycat angle. Much like with Halloween 3, some people felt cheated and let that override anything they might've actually enjoyed about the movie.

Not sure where exactly I'd rank Friday the 13th Part 5 in the overall franchise. I like it more than 7 and 8 for sure. Other than the lack of Jason, it has everything a fan could want from a Friday the 13th movie. Decent kills, tits, a Harry Manfredini score.

My favorite of the series. Followed by III. For one thing, I think John Shepherd makes a better Tommy. Debi sue Voorhees bOObs, Demon and his enchiladas, Dudley, Joey and his chocolate bars, the group house setting, the rain, and last but certainly not least Junior and Ma.

Said it before, I'll say it again, I really wish they would have stuck with original plan to pass the hockey mask to Tommy. But I admit VI does have one of the coolest trailers ever of any genre.

I hate that Crystal Lake looks like a little muck hole in VII, until the final battle, then it looks more like a lake.

It seems like it's been forever since I've seen a rank'em thread. emoticon

V:A New Beginning
III
Original
II
The Final Chapter
VIII:Jason Takes Manhattan

It's maybe the trashiest of them, considering the amount of gore and nudity. They'd really tend to tone down the later installments as far as that goes.

I got bored with the series after Part 3. I liked 6 because they changed him to a supernatural killer.

It is a damn weird sequel, isn't it? It's as if they needed a new entry in the series, but since Jason was dead, they didn't want to go the supernatural route. Not yet! So they had a copycat, but they never really gave him a good motive. I guess it was a similar angle to the Pamela-Jason angle, with Roy and fat victim kid.

I just think the motive to kill is so stupid, you gotta love it. It's quite entertaining, and a little more vivid than the previous entries. Great kills, great tits, fun characters... I love the whole barn finale. I just like barns, and Part 3 and 5 have great barn endings.

Also, I love how the cover art features a mask that's never in any of the movies. Still a cool cover either way.

Apparently with all this hubbub going round Hollywood, The fat kid in this is one of the slimeballs that molested one, or both, of the two Coreys. He also directed the in-the-know but godawful slasher, Evil Laugh.

Anyway, Friday 5 was talked about a lot (like all the Fridays) on the old boards and it always seemed to bring its fans outta the woodwork. Love the movie. Maybe only superceded by Friday the 13th III: Up in Toke.
