I still prefer House of 1000 Corpses but this is definitely a strong Rob Zombie horror film. Sid Haig, Ken Foree and Bill Mosely are all hilarious and terrifying. The role reversal at the end is interesting.

It's an interesting parallel that Tiny shows up at the end as a saviour figure for the evil characters when earlier in the film there was a scene with a victim calling out to God for help and no one came.

There is no such thing as a strong Rob Zombie film emoticon, but The Devil's Rejects is definitely his "best" movie for me.

I'd seen this film many times over the last 10 years, but it didn't strike me as a perfect film until I saw it on acid. Then, everything made sense. emoticon

Sure, House is a dumb, fun movie, but Rejects took it all in a much more serious direction. No Dr. Satan bullshit. Just a bleak, dirty road trip movie to exploit both the horrible and endearing sides of the Firefly family. Everyone is a monster in their own way, but just like in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, they take family very seriously.

Obviously, they're horrible people and they deserve to die, but the movie will leave you feeling really conflicted when it ends. Conflicted because you like these guys, but you know you shouldn't.

Rob Zombie's been putting out duds ever since, but he finally managed to recapture some of this glory with 31, which also had a really eerie ending that lingers with you.

As much as I hate Rob Zombie for butchering Halloween, I'll always love him for The Devil's Rejects.

i find it and Lords of Salem to be a cut above his other films. i prefer the latter, though.

I also find Lords of Salem and Rejects to be his best work technically cinematic wise but House of 1000 Corpses is so damn rewatchable especially around Halloween time, maybe because the film takes place during the days leading up to Halloween.

I enjoyed this the first time but it rapidly palled. Its seriousness is constantly undermined by its shrill, juvenile characters, and while effectively nasty at times its amorality feels like a pose, never really shocks. The Skynryd abusing soundtrack doesn't help. Watchable, but not up to much. Maybe 5/10. I too prefer House of 1000 Corpses, though unfortunately low on gore its anarchic, mean spirited weirdness is a lot of fun and lasts longer.

Yeah. I think this'll always be known as RZ's peak. I used to adore this and 1,000 Corpses.
