i really wanted to love this picture and i almost do.
the new Pennywise actor does a fine job, being in the unenviable position of replacing Tim Curry in a fondly remembered role. the rest of the cast is great, too, and the character building stuff all works very well for the most part. but then it tries to be a horror movie, which sadly doesn't mean what it used to. the musical stings border on farcical. i don't think i've seen good buildup squandered so frivolously since Sinister.
i'm tempted to eventually try my hand at a fan edit to try and tidy up some of the atmosphere and unsubtle tension breaks.
