I'm a fan of all things Karloff, Lugosi and also Hammer Horror so I had to check out the new Mummy. It's darker and more evil than the candy fluff of the Brendan Fraser movies but in spite of that I thought it was pretty disappointing.

Creature designs in it were very uninspired and I would even say lazy. It's pretty clear Dracula will be the big bad for the later films in Universal's new incarnation of the Dark Universe but it's off to a weak start at the moment.

Kong: Skull Island is by far the better current reincarnation of a classic monster this year.

I figured as much. It's funny how Universal thinks it's a "good" thing to cast Tom Cruise in this, and it's even funnier that he seems to be the focus of the film, even more so than the mummy herself. That's right... a fuckin' FEMALE mummy, because we all have to be politically correct these days, by giving women important roles... emoticon

Not very enthused by what I've seen of this, especially how they used "Paint it Black" in the trailer, and just kinda dragged it out until you get sick of the song... and that's tough for me, since I fucking love the Stones, kna'am sayin'?

I'll try to be optimistic when I see it... Yeah, that's a when and not an if. I guess as a Universal monster movie fan, I have to see it, even though I know I'll still prefer the original, simpler versions.

Having a female antagonist in a "mummy" story goes back at least to 1903, and I'm not sure there was too much political correctness in those days.

Yeah, it didn't seem to focus on that too much, but it still seems like the mummy was a female just so they could make Tom Cruise the star. I guess it's okay for what it is.

Aaaaannnndddd... I saw it.

Adequate start to the cinematic universe. It could've been a lot worse. There was a lot of cgi, but mostly for dust clouds and stuff. I liked the zombies/undead and sucking the life out of people always makes for a good time. I guess they were trying to channel the Stephen Sommers Mummy movies a bit, and didn't care to cater much to the classic Universal monster fans. (A dying breed, so why bother? emoticon)

The whole time, I was thinking that Mummy chick was kinda hot, but at the same time, I wanted to slap her in the face. Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll was decent. He sure liked to shoot up! I also appreciate that Mr. Hyde didn't grow in his transformation. I hate that kinda shit.

Looks bad. I usually hate action horror movies. But I will watch this anyway because that's what I do.
