Which do you prefer?

Werewolves for me.

But obviously you can't have horror without vampires.

In fact if you research the origins of mythology for both of them you'll find they were both created out of the same folklore.

Vampires.

There is a lack of quality werewolf movies though. I wouldn't mind seeing more of them.

These days, they're both pussies. If we're talking real, hardcore vampires and werewolves... I think I'll side with vampires. I love violent, beastly werewolves like in Bad Moon (1996) https://trashepics.com/forum/1797/ , but there aren't enough of those. I'll have to check out Dog Soldiers sometime soon. Not big on the director, but I'll bear with it.

Vampires though? They're just classy, evil bastards when done right. Count Yorga, Barnabas Collins... that's all you need, right there! I think when they're put together, vampires often use werewolves as their servants.

werewolves = vampire's bitch

I'm not a particular fan of either. But coming from a fantasy/fairy tale background before I got into horror I would opt for werewolves. However in movies neither have that what I really hope to see. The Company of Wolves came closest, dark fantasy tale, woods etc.

Vampires, by far. I can only think of about 3 or 4 Werewolf movies I like.

Werewolves for me, the only downside is that they're usually always disappointing when we get to see them.

When you mention the origins, it made me think of the family tree from The Monster Club emoticon

There was enough material here to make more films.

I'm more into vampires, personally. Maybe because once you've turned into a vampire, there's usually no going back to being human. But, werewolves only have to be careful (chained up) on the full moon, and they can be human for the other 29 or 30 nights a month, and all day long every day. It's just a minor inconvenience, if you're careful. So anyway, I think that that makes vampires scarier, as a threat to my humanity. Also, vampires are just more evil than werewolves.

Having said that... it seems like there really should be a place for more werewolf movies. In our modern world, with everything in our lives getting so artificial and unreal, there really should be something viscerally, primally appealing about the idea of becoming a werewolf. Like, forbidden appeal... the kind of thing that could provide great psychology for werewolf movies. It is odd that there aren't more of those movies... there are the Underworld movies, of course. There was a spate of extremely excellent werewolf or borderline-werewolf movies in the early 80's, with AWiL, Wolfen, and The Howling, but somehow the sub-genre never found its legs, at that time... also, Fright Night came along just a few years later, and laid a lot of the groundwork for the Interview With The Vampire movie, and also for Buffy, Twilight, etc... I guess you could say Salem's Lot got the ball rolling, a year or two before AWiL, but... I don't know, you could argue it either way.

I have to go with werewolves, since Skinwalkers (2006) is in my top five.

Overall vampires but the change scene in An American Werewolf in London will remain one the greatest moments in horror history.

There are a lot of good Vampire films but there are a lot of really bad Vampire films. There are some great werewolf movies and some bad ones. I think there just needs to be more werewolf movies. Werewolves are fucking cool as shit. I want to say Werewolves.

I have to disagree, I'm pleased with most werewolf films, including sequels.

Howling 4, for example, is decent (imo), and has one hell of a melting sequence
(one of the best ever). BTW, if you like Skinwalkers, you can check out my review.

Anyway, it's the only Skinwalkers review on TMDB (SoapboxQuantez08).
