My waiting time is over. I finally saw it last week! And I have to say that I absolutely loved it.

What's it about? In 1974, 'he' murdered his entire family as they slept in a haunted house, in Amityville, but 40 years later, a single mother that moves her three children into that the same house.

This movie is terrific, crazy and scary with some creepy moments. But yet, it's a lot of fun to watch. It has great jump scares! I found the twists crazy.

One thing in this movie made me surprise is that they showed the actual Amityville DVDs (the original, Amityville II: The Possession and the remake) and I loved how they showed it. They said new versions are boring, so they picked the original to watch and some of the characters watched it on TV. emoticon

Let's talk about the characters:
Bella Thorne gave a likable character, good acting and she showed her emotional moments. She wasn't dumb, neither annoying. She seemed awesome when she was fighting with the demon in the last scene.

Jennifer Jason Leigh gives a creepy performance. She played really crazy mother who already knew about the 'Amityville Horror' murders and she thought everything would be better in a possessed house in Amityville, but she was also good. She did a good job.

Cameron Monaghan was really creepy as looking. He was easily the best and creepiest part of the movie.

The little girl is nothing special like Chloe Moretz was.

It's not for everyone, but if you like the remake, Rob Zombie's remake, The Possession, etc. you definitely should to see it. Since you need a time for this movie to release. It's just an entertaining film!

Amityville is a strange series... while I rather adore the original '79 film (which most don't?), the sequels have been hit-or-miss, and delved into DTV/shit territory. I haven't seen most of them (yet), but the DTV-nature of them leaves little to be desired.

However, this is a series I ought to binge soon. I want to have hope in Franck Khalfoun, so I might give this one a chance. As a completionist, I might have to bear through all the other bullshit though... emoticon

I've seen 1, 2, 3, and part of 4. I hated the flashy remake with the sexy, sexy Ryan Reynolds.

I'm a fan of the original, maybe for nostalgic reasons, I don't know. That remake is a piece of shite. Although it has it's corny parts, part II is not too bad.

2 is the best of a pretty bad bunch. Its just trashy fun.

The first movie is mostly enjoyable for nostalgia. It really has that 70s-80s era based on a true story (with a heavy dose of fiction) vibe that they did a pretty good job of imitating for the Conjuring movies. Also, Margot Kidder and James Brolin's performances were a riot. I don't think either of them took it very seriously, especially Kidder.

By the early 90's this series would end up about how you would expect. The Amityville Curse and Amityville It's About Time were painfully uninteresting.

Yes, a solid movie. But I like part 4 way better.

It really suffered from its low budget. If they'd had the money and special effects available to do some of those scenes more convincingly, it would have been a decent enough horror movie.

I threw this one on for the challenge, and finally... a decent sequel to an increasingly shitty franchise.

The cast and characters were solid, the meta-awareness of the premise was unique. I, too, enjoyed the blatant nods to the original. The ending didn't piss me off or anything.

Solid movie.

Found a stream for it on Exodus. The OP saw it months ago, and I just watched it, but it doesn't come out in the states till the end of the month. I'm sure you'll find it eventually.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I don't think this movie deserves a lot of hate and to call a 'remake' while it's not. It's way better than some of the Amityville sequels. For now, I think it's still a good movie to me, and I would watch it again.

Nothing special, but not bad at all.

Just finished it... Not a fan. 4/10 Really no reason for it to bear the Amityville name other than to try to cash in on the "franchise".

All I could think while watching was that somebody needs put some damn chapstick on that kid/vegetable.... All that wasted money on medical equipment, and no one has a tube of chapstick handy?

I'll stick with the first two.

I watched it earlier. Not too bad. Not that I was expecting much. It held my attention better than I thought it would. The acknowledgement of past installment as "movies" was annoying, though. No reason why it couldn't just be another sequel. Still better than quite a few of the actual sequels. Nice seeing Ian from Shameless in something else. 5/10
