Well, that was the lousiest October Challenge I've ever experienced. Wasn't in to it at all. I had planned on watching a bunch of TV movies and some Hammer films but got stuck on micro-budget 2010's Slashers I found on Amazon Prime. Nothing else was doing it for me for some reason. I hope everyone else was able to get into the October spirit. Nice turn out this year. And congratulations to Ballz on gaining the top spot.

I'm proud of winning, despite the lack of competition towards the end of the challenge. Would've watched a bit more too if a family emergency hadn't come up on Halloween. Since it's over, I'll go ahead and admit: I hoped to beat Gym's 106 from last year. Oh well, maybe next year. emoticon

Favorites of the month, starting with the only movie I rated higher than an 8:

Fascination (1979)
Pin (1988)
Blood for Dracula (1974)
Strait-Jacket (1964)
Witchfinder General (1968)
Unsane (2018)
Spider Baby (1967)
Paranoiac (1963)
Resolution (2012)
The Endless (2017)
Diabolique (1955)
The City of the Dead (1960)
Eye of the Devil (1966)
Dead of Night (1945)

Congratulations. I was mostly focusing on Zombie and could keep up with him barely ntil the latter part he slowed down. Your pace was just too high for me. I need to take a month of to watch 100+ and then again there is a chance that there will be people keeping me from it lol.

Spider Baby is one of my favorites. Diabloque is nice too and I saw Dead of Night first time this challenge, pleasant surprise the doll story being my favorite.

Congrats!

Thought I had it in the bag this year, but chilled out on a few days and never could get fully back into it. My goal was 75 flicks thoug and I hit it so, I'm happy with that.

Congratulations to @ballz for blowing us all away. He really went for it. It's good to see some of the non-regs come back for this glorious tradition. I know they hold this challenge on imdb2 and (maybe) facebook's group, but I haven't looked into much of that. We'll need to look into that and see how these challenges compare. Perhaps @nicko can weigh in on that, because I think he partook on imdb2. I know some of those users on there had at one point registered here, but barely/never posted. We'll have to find a way to lure them back in!

Also congrats to all of us who passed. I know it can be a trying effort if you have other shit going on in your life, and if you make it work, that's a testament to all of your badassery, right there. I myself barely made it, because I've been busy as fuck this last month. Working everyday between two different jobs for weeks, because life is an obstacle. Got to make ends meet.

Also high five to those who almost made it. They tried. I want to note that @der did watch more than zero movies, as well as a few I didn't get around to for the month, but he failed to document it in the deadline, so fuck him.

As for my challenge? I thought I put in an okay effort. Not as great as some of my other years, but not the worst. I always love discovering new horror movies, and I found a few I quite enjoyed this month. A lot of mediocre shit, but a few solid movies.

GOOD:

Cronenberg's infectious 70s flick "Shivers", the re-se-boot-quel "Halloween", and the Napoleon Dynamite-esque "Greasy Strangler", where everyone is a bullshit artist! Not much, but enough.

Didn't watch anything I'd consider terrible, or even bad really. Had an overall steady selection, IMO.

Did the challenge go as great as I'd hoped? As much as I would have loved for more users to participate, I think we had a pretty good turnout either way. I had fun, and I think everyone else had fun. emoticon

Looking at the list of participants, more people took part than I thought. It was a blast for me for the most part, and I surpassed my goal of 75 flicks...and I didn't watch too many bad ones and found a couple I may make perennial rewatches even if not for the challenge.

Standouts for me this year were:

Possessed (Lee Yong-ju, 2009)
Creep 2 (Patrick Brice, 2017)
Terrifier (Damien Leone, 2017)
Carnage Park (Mickey Keating, 2016)
Society (Brian Yuzna, 1989)
Terror Firmer (Lloyd Kaufman, 1999)
The Suckling (Francis Teri, 1990)
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (Scott Glosserman, 2006)

I almost added Disconnected to that list because I kind of loved the ending. It was a weird ride and I don't think it earned the brutality of its kills. It was a pretty depraved flick...but I got a kick out of the old man upstairs being behind the calls. Odd little movie with a great soundtrack and I may watch it again down the line.

Forgot how much I enjoyed Svengali (Archie Mayo, 1931) and The Cell (Tarsem Singh, 1999). Both are visually stunning movies. Also was surprised to find that the Cabin Fever sequels and the remake are all pretty solid. If the remake had better actors it would have surpassed the original. The original just had more character, but the remake was a bit clearer in its intention.

Another awesome challenge and I can't wait to do it again next year. I always intend to post on here more than just in October and love that you guys have kept this thing going. So, hopefully I'll be talking to you all...sooner rather than later.
