I was waiting on Matheny to reclaim her place as host, but doesn't look like that's going to happen. So, here goes...

Welcome to the 2017 October Challenge. And for many of us, this is the first one away from the IMDb Horror board, which means it's no longer required to save your progress. So, fuck that no life having little cocksucker that used to make it necessary to delete the OP. Seriously. Kill yourself, whoever you were.

So, the rules, as I remember. To complete this challenge, one must watch at least 31 Horror films in the month of October. At least 16 of which shall be first time viewings. All are welcome to watch and list as many as possible.

No TV shows, no Documentaries. Horror films only.

If you're not positive as to whether or not a movie is of the Horror genre, just use your own judgement. If you feel like there's a little Horror in there, then it counts.

I'm gonna go with 45 minutes minimum for a movie to count.

Challenge begins when October begins, and ends with October ends.

No, wait! if I remember correctly, the challenge usually runs until 6 AM November 1st. So, for anyone wanting to have an all night Halloween marathon, there ya go!

If anyone has any questions or comments... https://trashepics.com/post/9/161/

Remember to list the number of movies/FTVs at the bottom, or it will not be counted in the results thread.

This is the year of trash. And this will no doubt prove to be the trashiest October Challenge of them all!

And this is where you make your spot. Have fun!

Evil Dead II is still one of my absolute favorite horror films. Didn't you also like Ouija: Origin of Evil on first viewing? Why did you rewatch it and what things didn't you like it?

My spot:
#1 Ghost Ship (2002) 6.5/10 - OK, ghost story. Not great movie, but it's enough solid that could have been great if it has a good script and I think this film looks like a bit of a B movie. The story and twist are good enough. I loved the opening scene, it was unexpectedly good. That scene was the only good thing about it and it's almost like they used their entire budget in that scene. The acting is ok and I didn't care for any characters except Emily Browning's ghost character which she was really likeable. But overall, it was just an okay film with good story.

#2 mother! 10/10 - Since Black Swan (2010) is my all-time favorite film, I can't describe how โ€˜mother!โ€™ much is strange and unusual movie. It is one hell of a film, but absolutely brilliant. I absolutely loved it! Excellent atmosphere! Stunning cinematography like from Black Swan. You will feel very awkward during watching because of weird situations. I thought Jennifer Lawrence was absolutely good in it and gave a powerful performance. In my opinion, she did her best performance so far and I am truly hoping she will be nominated an Oscar. Javier Bardem and Michelle Pfeiffer were also good actors. I wish I could see this movie again for the first time because it was hard to watch how much disturbing it is. Iโ€™d give it easily a 10/10 and this movie is in my top 40 of all time now. A new psychological horror masterpiece! Darren Aronofsky is one filmmaker that deeply disturbs me, he is just a genius director.

#3 The Brood (1979) 6/10 - Since Cronenberg's The Fly (1986) is a very good and successful film, I thought this one was an okay scifi/body horror film. I thought it was creepy, dark, intense and shocking, but it has however most boring scenes. The last 15 minutes is surprisingly good and how creepy was it is. I'm not sure if the story makes all the sense, but it was definitely strange in an interesting way lol. Great atmosphere, and I loved that creepy performance by Samantha Eggar. Everything about this was just all that okay, but last 15 minutes was something special.

#4 Demons (1985) 9/10 - A very cheesy 80's Italian horror film, but at least, it was very fun. It has terrible acting, good effects, good atmosphere, laughably bad, but so good story. I really enjoyed watching this low-budget film! So horror fans, if you haven't seen it, you're in for one hell of a fun movie. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

#5 Black Sabbath (1963) 8.5/10 - This is an anthology film with three horror stories and Boris Karloff (who played the monster in Frankenstein '31) hosts.
The first story called "The Telephone" is about a woman who continually receives threatening telephone calls from an unseen stalker. Enough interesting story, but left me questions what exactly happened. But overall, it has a good mystery/horror story.

The second story called "The Wurdulak" is OK story. Karloff plays as a vampire, and he was a good part from it. This story felt a bit way too long and boring, but overall, it has a good vampire story, and I loved the ending.

The third story called "The Drop of Water" is.. Oh God! Easily the best and scariest of the three! Creepy as hell, but has a genius story told.

I think it's just beautiful Italian horror film! The lighting, the setting, the effects!

#6 A Bay of Blood (1971) 3.5/10 - I found it completely slow and boring Italian slasher movie. It had some good ideas for kills, but the plot, dialogue, and characters are simply poor. The cinematography is ugly. The editing is also garbage. Best part of this movie was the beginning scene. It only had decent kills, but everything else in this movie sucked.

#7 Near Dark (1987) 9.5/10 - It is one of the most modern vampire films of the decade. This is such stunningly awesome vampire film which never once uses the word "vampire". I found it very interesting, watchable and enjoyable, it's an excellent and absolute classic. Excellent atmosphere and cinematograhy! I can't describe anymore about it because it's not what a vampire film you think, it has across multiple genres than only horror. I'd give it a 9.5/10 and I highly recommend it!

#8 Carrie (2013) (rewatch) 10/10 - I just finally re-watched it after 4 years when it released. For first, I love the original "Carrie", I also thought the new one is still an excellent remake. I thought it was amazing, well done, quite pleasent, touching, heart-breaking film. I liked Chloรซ Moretz's performance and she did a fine job. She gave a better Carrie role than from the original because I consider that Sissy Spacek was way too old for the role which she was one of the main problems I have with the original, but she gave a fine performance too. I loved the original Margaret, Carrie's mother who is obssessed with her religious beliefs, I also thought Julianne Moore was fantastic in it. She gives a creepy performance. Her messy hair made her character even more creepier. I liked the prom scene better than from the original because it is a bit stronger scene and I didn't like the way they put two screens from original prom scene. I thought the special effects and CGI weren't bad, it looked really nice. I don't accept any complains about the story, it was still good as the original, but has lower rating because horror remakes are hard to like and always compare it with the old movie. Carrie (2013) is definitely, in my opinion, one of the best horror remakes of the last 10 years.

#9 It Comes at Night (2017) 9/10 - WOW! I adore movies distributed by A24 and still impress me. It is actually more of a post apocalyptic drama/suspense film than outright horror movie, but still an excellent film. These jump scares are rare, but I found it quite darkly disturbing as the story and very realistic. People said nothing comes at night, I bet they expected a monster or something, but this is all about human fear, survival and trust. Very good acting and directing. So, if you liked The Witch (2016), this movie is for you. It Comes at Night is another great horror movie that many horror fans actually hates this movie.

#10 King Kong (1933) 7.5/10 - A very solid movie with brilliant editing and incredibly amazing special effects, but I thought the 2005 version is a lot of better and more emotional film. I still liked it anyway.

#11 The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) 10/10 - A truly classic, and one of the most entertaining movies of the 50s. The theme of the film is what is amazing. What really impressed me was the special effects. It was absolutely amazing. I love the fight with the cat, one of the best movie scenes of the decade I've ever seen. The ending is not what you will expect, it's unexpectedly brilliant and unforgettable. Since The Fly '58 is a classic and still my favorite scifi film of the 50's, both are terrific films and are a ton of fun to watch. Highly recommend!

#12 Candyman (1992) 9/10 - It's a 90s supernatural horror/psychological thriller film about the Candyman, a murderous soul with hook for a hand. Sometimes I am not a huge fan of horror films of the 1990s, but it's actually surprisingly excellent, creepy, dark, sad and deeply disturbing film. The story is really thrilling and fantastic. The acting is surprisingly good, especially for a horror movie. The amount of depth, dimension and persona that Tony Todd gives to his character 'Candyman' is amazing. The gory scenes are very effective.

#13 Leatherface (2017) 6.5/10 It feels like I watched some solid indie horror film with low budget, and it barely feels like โ€˜Texas Chainsaw Massacreโ€™ movie. Iโ€™ve always wondered where the *beep* is Leatherface or who is until I saw the twist at the end who is actually (I wasn't even sure who is it when his mom was trying to look for him in hospital) and I thought it was just odd but in probably a good way. Good thing that I havenโ€™t read the plot of this movie and I think some people shouldnโ€™t read too. I thought the gory/violent scenes are awesome, but also feels needless because itโ€™s Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie and the way it was too much for it. I expected a good cinematography, but the color looks way too orange. I donโ€™t think the acting and characters were bad, but Lili Taylor (who played the mom in The Conjuring) was one of the better things about it. She played as Leatherfaceโ€™s mom, she gives a crazy performance, but also really good.
Leatherface is definitely the most disturbing movie in the series, but also the worst. I actually liked all other 'Texas Chainsaw Massacreโ€™ movies. One with McConaughey and Zellweger is a masterpiece that itโ€™s terrible and actually very enjoyable at the same time. I havenโ€™t seen 3D in a long time, but I remember I really enjoyed this one. But however, I donโ€™t think this prequel was disappointed, but I expected something more.. I donโ€™t know if itโ€™s worth to watch for once, but itโ€™s definitely forgettable after a day.

#14 Noroi: The Curse (2005) 5.5/10 - It's a Japanese found footage horror film about documentary filmmaker that explores in depth the paranormal. I thought it was a bit too long, a bit boring, but also a creepy movie. I know it's a low-budget film, but low quality shaky camera bothered me. Some things are hard to understand as it left me a few questions. But however, it's still an okay film, I liked some creepy scenes and the ending, but that's it.

#15 Creep (2015) 5.5/10 - I am a big fan of found footage style such like Paranormal Activity and there's really nothing specialty by this film. I mean it has well-written story, but it has most boring scenes and dialogues. It was a bit creepy indeed, especially the ending, but didn't give me creeps. The camerawork is really nice though. Overall, it isn't really that bad, it was enough to watch at least once and I still would watch the second one.

#16 Halloween (1978) (rewatch) 10/10 - I can't really describe something what I think about this movie, it's definitely different from any other slasher films. An excellent film! It feels too short and and had no many deaths, but still an absolute classic because it feels so original and has all memorable scenes from the beginning to end. The atmosphere is an excellent, and this is one of the absolute finest slasher films ever.
