Well there is people making money with it and I would like to try it at least once. However I was wondering if there is any decent horror movies dealing with this theme or in general a house with booby traps that one has to survive.

I have seen the whole Saw franchise (I might have missed 5 or 6 but I didn't care that much any more after the third).

I have seen Cube, which started interesting enough but low budget apparently meant the focus switched from traps to the internal conflicts. They had to re-use the same room over and over again I heard.
The Bone collector movies have crap stories but entertaining with some great traps.

There is a few movies titled Escape Room (even one this year) but not sure how much horror these are.

The main ones are Saw and Cube. The Saw series begins in just a single room, but by part 2, they were always navigating their way through gauntlets and multiple traps. In Cube, it was a strange rotating rubiks cube of traps, and while I forget most of what happens in those movies on account of them being syfy channel quality movies, I'm pretty sure that not much changes in the layout of the maze.

Escape Room looked pretty lame to me. I saw one a few years ago called Exam (2009) and it wasn't too bad. A bunch of "random" people are asked to partake in an exam, but when they get the test, the paper is blank, so they have to figure out what to do.

Have you ever seen Green Room? That movie is awesome. It's an escape room movie in the sense that they're trapped in a room after some nazi shit goes down, and they just want to get the fuck out of it. It's got some brutal violence and a great atmosphere.

There are two 2017 movies titled Escape Room. Both are lame. The Will Wernick movie is slighly less lame.
