Ok, this may be a stupid question, but what exactly qualifies a movie to be considered a B movie? Is it if it's just bad? Or does it need to have a very low budget? Can a B movie ever have a large budget? Can it be a mainstream movie?

I know The Room has a reported budget of 6 million and it's now launched into cult status, so is it still a B movie?

The original meaning of B-Movie goes back to the drive-in days when they would show double features. The first film was the A movie, and the second, which was generally of lesser quality, was the B movie. Nowadays I think it just refers to a movie made independently outside of the Hollywood system.

That makes sense. A drive-in movie sounds like a fun experience. It's something I always wanted to do, but I don't think any exist even remotely close to where I live.

I've heard stories that they still exist, but I've never seen one myself.

Last I checked which was over a year ago there was still one open in Connecticut, which is driving distance from me albeit a long one. There used to be 1 in Long Island that friends and I used to frequent but they closed 15-20 years ago.

Looking at the wikipedia article it's basically what Znep said:

Dear Bry, you do know that wikipedia is written by people like you and me right? However the content can always be questioned and if necessary corrected. They do prefer that you provide sources for the info you are giving. I know as I have been writing some articles myself in the past mostly on Belgian comics (in my mother tongue).

But that aside I know you are just stirring the pot emoticon
