Sucks that the Documentary Challenge didn't happen this month. It's one I'm really looking forward to. Maybe I should've volunteered when @Messiah inquired about a host at the end of last month (I think that happened anyway, can't find it now).

I am however volunteering to host a week long challenge this month, if enough people are interested. I think it'd be best to start on a Sunday, so it'd have to either be this coming Sunday (13th) or the Sunday after that (20th).

To anyone interested, please help decide what that challenge might be. I recall a Shark Week being mentioned before, but that'd be better if it was saved for a summer month, yeah? Here are a few ideas I have:

Western Week
Simply watch movies that fall under the western genre. There are plenty of western movies out there to choose from, both old and new. Enough in fact that it could instead be used for a month long challenge, but I feel like most people here aren't big western fans. Not sure even I could remain interested in them for a month. A week though? That feels doable.

Halloween in May
It's like Christmas in July, but better. Because Halloween's better than Christmas. Also, Halloween is in about six months, just as Christmas is about six months after the start of July, so that sort of works too. This challenge wouldn't be a (complete) rehash of the October Challenge. Instead, the focus would be solely on Halloween-themed movies. Again, a month for this challenge would probably be too much.

Mother's Week
This challenge would only work if it started this coming Sunday, as that's Mother's Day. Movies with some kind of motherly aspect would apply. Psycho, Serial Mom, Mommie Dearest, to name a few. Isn't there even at least one horror movie called Mother's Day? I think the points would need to be something other than minute based for this one or at least the rules narrowed down to what specifically counts as a mother movie.

That's all I've got. Seriously, if you like any of my ideas, let me know, and if any of you have other ideas, pitch them. Your ideas are probably better than the ones I've thrown together. And if you have an idea which you'd prefer to host yourself, we can do that too. I'm just trying to get something together since it feels a little weird around here without an ongoing challenge.

I'm interested.
I'm not interested.

There is plenty of genres, subgenres, genre combinations and themes to have challenges for the whole year. I think even just with the horror genre you could do challenges for most of the year. I'm all for weekly challenges certainly for very specific themes or subgenres. But for some genres I just don't care: western and action ar my least favorite.
I like your idea for mother's week. Could this idea perhaps increase the traffic again? Some members just disappear or turn up once a week.
Foz, Smerd, Gymno, jimbred, Zombie_cpa, psychotronicbeatnik they could contribute so much...

A new challenge always seems to bring back one or two people who haven't posted in a while. Only problem is, their return is usually temporary.

For Mother's Week, I'm thinking the points could be for things like "each time a mother is undressed" or "each time a mother commits murder". With a movie like Serial Mom or Friday the 13th, a few points could be obtained for murder alone.

I forgot about the newer Mom and Dad, with Nicholas Cage. Not seen it, but it sounds perfect for Mother's Week. Goodnight Mommy looks good too, never heard of that one.

Come on you got this. Think of an idea. Run it by me, @ballz, and we can help you out! I think ballz has mentioned the only months that have a set challenge are October, anf November. Probably September, and March as well. But not too sure if those have to be those months.

Hosting might be intimidating, but it's not as difficult as it seems. And if you don't have any ideas, you could always host one of the challenges that already exist. Black and White, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Documentary, just to name a few.
