This was a pretty interesting episode, from 1976. They could have gotten a whole movie out of it. In fact, it may have influenced some horror movies that came after it aired... see what you think.

youtube

I shouldn't say too much about it, but I'll just say that it draws partly upon the tradition of ideas from Forbidden Planet, and from Carrie, and it MIGHT have laid some of the groundwork for The Legacy, NOES, Poltergeist, and Halloween 2.

I'll just say that it has the Bionic Woman being sent to be a governess for a father and daughter, who have been experiencing possible paranormal phenomena. The father is supposed to be some kind of scientist working on important stuff for the US government, but that isn't really too important to the plot... It is worth watching just for Lindsay Wagner, OF COURSE, but it also has the guy who played Alejandro Sosa in Scarface, and Kristy McNichol. But getting back to Lindsay Wagner, she was probably 26 years old when they filmed this, and, Good Lord.

Anyway, it is interesting and spooky, and very 70s, and you might enjoy checking iit out. Hmmmm, wait a sec, I am experiencing massive deja vu, have I mentioned this episode here before?!? If so... well, I won't say I'm sorry, it's a great episode either way.

If you want to read a little about it, the episode was called The Ghosthunter, or The Ghost Hunter. Here's its IMDB page.

Just so people from various other countries in this forum understand this: Zed is not talking about Stone Cold Steve Austin. Totally different.

There were two old American TV shows about "bionic" (cyborg) characters, named The Six Million Dollar Man, and The Bionic Woman. The Six Million Dollar Man was about a character named Steve Austin, played by Lee Majors, who you might remember as Ash's dad on Ash Vs Evil Dead. Steve Austin was supposed to be an ex-astronaut who had been severely injured in a crash, but was rebuilt with powerful robotic parts, so he basically had superpowers. He also had super vision, because of his new bionic eye.
The Bionic Woman was a show that grew out of The Six Million Dollar Man, and featured overlapping characters and story arcs (I think) with the original TSMDM show. It starred Lindsay Wagner as the bionic woman, and she always came across as so classy and intelligent and... just NICE, that it was easy to forget what a babe she was. She had super-strength because of her robot parts, and she also had super hearing because they gave her a bionic ear.

Anyway, this show was shown on channels like Nickelodeon well into this century, and is still watchable, although it is clearly very 70s. Both shows are very 70s, I should say.

I'm not sure if Stone Cold took the "Steve Austin" part of his name from The Six Million Dollar Man, but due to his various injuries, he was sometimes referred to as the "Bionic Redneck".

I've never watched The Six Million Dollar Man or The Bionic Woman.

You werent missing much. Today some ppl refer to as the goldem age of tv (though I dont watch now )
but growing up in the 70s / early 80s. Man there was so much shit on TV, good shows were few and far between for kids/teenagers (hell even adults)
You had the goodies & monkey & twilight zone ( all timeless classics, I occasionally will watch)

then you had stuff like star trek, kenny everitt show, dr who (sometimes esp when tom baker had his sense of humour), night gallery, hill street blues, blakes 7, dukes of hazard (sometimes, though even as a kid I could see it was bad but I liked SBIG)
Later on better stuff started to appear like the young ones

Edit:
Actually one of my first memories (I still remember the house we lived in, I would of been like 4 years old, I was watching gilligans island & my brain was going what the fuck this is shite, beverly hillbillies, the munsters, happy days etc)

Whenever I see something like Gilligan's Island on TV, I always think about how poorly it's aged. The Brady Bunch and Three's Company also come to mind. With most of those shows, you don't have to look any further than their opening credit sequences to find out how bad they are.

thats the thing it hasnt aged badly, its just always been bad & thats what I was thinking at the time as a child, it was like 99% of TV was aimed at people with IQs of 70.

Literally 99% of stuff on the TV was just pure mindless trash.
But you had no other options if you wanted to watch TV so ppl just put up with that crap.
Thats incredible!

One of the weekly 'highlights' when it came out (which shows how bereft the TV scheduel was) the funny thing is nowadays theres so much good stuff on TV or if you don't like that, some streaming service like youtube.
So kids today must be spoilt and watching good stuff right?
Naw, theyre watching tiktok (last time I checked 1-2 years ago, checked all the most popular creators, fuck the short videos they made were terrible)
So maybe its just me and ppl are just naturally drawn to mindless shit no matter the period.
Btw watched 'the ghost breakers' with bob hope last night, can't see that guy without picturing him in some awards ceremony in the 70s/80s reading some unfunny lines like a robot.
