I have probably posted this before, I think this thought recurrently, every few months.... I just can't get rid of it. Anyway: people named Bruce have done disproportionately well in pop culture, for several decades now. Will this exciting trend continue?.... We shall see.

Can you think of any major Bruces who have been a huge part of pop culture, including, but not restricted to, horror movie culture? There are several obvious choices, but just to start out with something people might not instantly think of, there was Bruce, the shark in Jaws. And, arguably, any movie starring any guy from Australia.

Anyone have any others?

I didn't know the shark's name was Bruce. However, I did know that the characters in Mallrats were named after the characters in Jaws, such as Brodie Bruce. I guess that makes a bit more sense now.

Bruce Dickinson is one. Iron Maiden often uses horror imagery, and whenever this guy puts his pants on one leg at a time, he makes gold records.

Besides the obvious choice of Bruce "The Chin" Campbell, are there really that many other great horror-related Bruces?

Bruce Dickinson LOL! Excellent choice.

I was gonna say, how about Bruce Smith? He was pretty damned hardcore.

not necessarily horror related, but there are an unusually high number of Bruces, fictional and real, who are unusually cool. Bruce Lee, Bruce Springsteen, Bruce Willis, The Chin, Bruce Wayne, Bruce Banner... here. these guys came up with some others. I didn't know this twitter thread existed until just now, I just found it.

Bruce Dern. I've only seen a handful of his movies, but I like him.

You have Bruce Abbott, the one normal guy from the first two Re-Animator films. He was married to Linda Hamilton through most of the 80s, and is now married to Kathleen Quinlan, who is probably best known to horror fans as the mother in the remake of The Hills Have Eyes.

Yeah, good one! He was cool. He didn't necessarily come across as a horror guy, to me, in the sense of absolutely living for the genre, but he deserves credit anyway. He paid his dues, he belongs.

Kathleen Quinlan was also the sort of tutor/governess character in the Twilight Zone Movie, the one who arrived one day to take care of the little kid who was basically a god. It was their version of the It's a GOOD Life! episode.

Maybe Bruce Greenwood? I guess he's probably not a HUGE part of pop culture, but he played JFK, and was in a few horror/scifi movies, and he generally gets respect. He might be a bigger star in Canada, I don't know.
