Has anyone seen this recently? It's on AMC. I just noticed a few likely references to 80s movies that I think I missed in previous viewings.

Toward the end, Nica dresses very similarly to how Chris Sarandon dressed, not in the original Child's Play, but in Fright Night (1985). She has a red scarf on, and a winter coat with a sort of collar that is not identical to, but is similar to, what Chris S wore in FN. Chris S's winter coat was darker in color, but otherwise they are kind of similar.

Also, right at the end they drive off in a car that makes me think of the Freddymobile from the end of the original Nightmare on Elm Street.

Had to share.

I'll bite. I thought Cult was a pretty interesting movie where people think the girl is crazy because Chucky is framing her the whole time, but after a while, it turned into a clusterfuck. Might I add, one that felt like it wasn't properly ended. We have a lot of loose ends, but I guess that's all just setup for the tv show.

Still not sure if I'll bother with the unjustified remake. I still can't believe they just went behind everyone's back and made the movie. A lot of the original cast and crew seemed quite against it.

I agree, about the remake. Cult was a borderline masterpiece, IMHO. It was a hell of a lot better than I would expect from a movie that was THAT far along in the franchise. Number 7 should be a load of crap, probably, with the notable exception of F13 VII. So, yeah, why do a remake? Unnnecessary, it makes no sense.

I thought if was like watching a play, with all the minimalist set designs, the long stretches of the film with nothing but well written dialog... solid movie. The ending is debatable, yeah, but overall I personally think it's really good.
