Or Pandorum (2009)? Anything set on a large spaceship meant to transport colonists to another star system, over an extremely long period of time, but something goes wrong.

Now that I'm typing this, I am experiencing deja vu. Have I posted this question before, and just forgot?!? Sorry.

Whatever... anyway, there is an old story by Robert Heinlein that I liked a lot when I first discovered it, when I was in around fifth grade. Wait, I read the segment of this called Universe, apparently there is another segment that I'm not sure I ever read. I should seek that out. The collected, total version, including both segments, is discussed here.

I also read Proxima Centauri by Murry Leinster. I had a few books and anthologies of very old science fiction when I was a kid, I didn't even really understand that they were outdated in some ways.... anyway, Proxima Centauri is a short story.

Anyway, I just noticed this little list on Wikipedia, so that'll give me a start. Does anybody here have any thoughts to add to this??

I remember Alien Covenant had the ship transporting some colonists, or at least some DNA for potential colonists. Too bad the movie turned derivative. I wish they would have kept the Prometheus route instead of trying to make it more of a xenomorph movie, because that's where it turned uninspired. Plus, the Fassbender twist was predictable as fuck.

I haven't seen Passengers, but I like space stuff. And while I like Chris Pratt, I kinda hate Jennifer Lawrence, so there's that...

I'm interested in the idea of space journeys that take hundreds or thousands of years. As in, many generations. I know there are some stories like that, where the colonists are either stashed in suspended animation, or are expected to live on the ship as hydroponic farmers, or that type of job, for however many years the journey is supposed to take.

Passengers is not a bad watch, IMHO. Apparently it was kind of a flop financially, but I like the idea that they at least thought seriously about how long a journey like that would actually take, and what that could mean. I like this fan theory about the movie, you might want to wait until you've seen it before reading this. Or not, it might make it more interesting to see... your call.

When I had deja vu in my first post in this thread, it just hit me that I might have posted about a similar story once before. Here it is:
