My brief thoughts on the film...

This film was extremely hyped, so much so that people were comparing it to Trick โ€˜r Treat, the superb horror anthology film from 2007. My expectations were high and while I enjoyed it overall, I couldnโ€™t help but feel a little underwhelmed. The segments are hit and miss and it lacks the strong narrative structure and meshing that Trick โ€˜r Treat had.

Basically, itโ€™s an anthology film with ten segments from ten different directors that are all set in the same town. Theyโ€™re all loosely tied together by a radio DJ, whoโ€™s played by Adrienne Barbeau. The film does a good job of capturing the spirit of Halloween in spite of some of the segments missing the mark. My personal favorite segments are โ€œThe Night Billy Raised Hellโ€, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, and โ€œThis Means Warโ€, directed by Andrew Kasch and John Skipp.

Itโ€™s an uneven horror anthology film overall, but itโ€™s entertaining and I recommend it. It features just enough of everything that makes anthology horror and Halloween fun.

You think? It actually makes me think of the Stephen Gammell illustrations from "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark", which are creepy as fuck.

I watched this a few days ago, and for the most part... I enjoyed it. The segments were hit or miss, but I'll share my thoughts...

Sweet Tooth - A decent start, but nothing really noteworthy.

The Night Billy Raised Hell - Barry Bostwick! Fairly amusing.

Trick - A dark little entry with a nice twist.

The Weak and the Wicked - Stylish entry, channeling a western-vibe, but it's also kinda meh.

Grim Grinning Ghost - Starring the hottie Alex Essoe from Starry Eyes, but it ultimately goes nowhere. Pretty disappointing.

Ding Dong - Easily the worst. Goofy, over-the-top crap that barely made sense.

This Means War - Neighbors battling over old-school vs. new school decorations. Enjoyable.

Friday the 31st - Really disappointed with this one. It started off great too, but then it turned into a steaming pile of dog poop.

The Ransom of Rusty Rex - Entertaining story of a kidnapping gone wrong... for the captors.

Bad Seed - Kristina Klebe from RZ's Halloween returns to another Halloween story. Mildly amusing, but nowhere near as good as the 1956 film of the same name.
