I was just listening to an episode.
In case you don't know its a radio show thats been going on for 80+ years on the BBC where each week a (famous) person chooses 8 music tracks (and a book and luxery item) so lets hear yours?

Mine: (work in process), not in order btw

1. The Gunners Dream - Pink Floyd
2. Black Waters Blowed/Engine Broke Blues - Silver Mt Zion
3. Lost on Yer Merry Way - Grandaddy
4. The Black and White - NOFX
5. Baton Rouge - Lou Reed
6. Karen Revisted - Sonic Youth
7. Massage the History - Sonic Youth
8. Script for a Jesters Tear - Marillion

And the one to choose to save would be Black Waters Blowed/Engine Broke Blues

book:
luxery item:

I've never really understood this term because to me a "disc" represents a whole album not an individual song. I can't list single songs.

originally they were cylinders
Though I think early on discs were prolly only singles, 78's and then 45's

Yeah good point, I guess this radio show was around well before cds - which of course is what springs to mind when you say "discs".

So does that mean you can only pick songs that have been released as singles?

Although I'd have trouble coming up with a list of my own, Nicko doesn't and he asked me to share his on his behalf. Pretty respectable one it is too:

1. The Only Way is Up - Yazz
2. I Think We're Alone Now - Tiffany
3. Jump - Van Halen
4. Heaven is a Place on Earth - Belinda Carlisle
5. The Boys Are Back in Town - Thin Lizzy
6. Dirty Diana - Michael Jackson
7. All That She Wants - Ace of Base
8. When Will I Be Famous? - Bros

He enjoys singing some of these at kareoke from time to time apparently.

I know you've been waiting for me to chime in on this but it's not a bad playlist. I'd swap Belinda Carlisle Heaven is a Place on Earth for I Get Weak and perhaps Van Halen Jump for I'd Wait personally but overall not bad. Not much Canadian representation though, no Bryan Adams?

Like I said, a very respectable list. As far as Canadian representation goes, I believe Neil Young's Heart of Gold nearly made the cut because Nicko has, like, a heart of gold.

I would figure Alanis Morisette but hey I would guess Rush before Neil Young, but ok if you say so!

This is a hell of a task...I can't pick just 8 songs, I need a revolving 50!

Yes well thats the format of the show, Myself I'm an album guy, I always only listen to albums.
I don't think I've even used the shuffle function of a music player. My belief is the artist put them in that order & I respect their wishes.

My list of favorite songs is never very constant, so this is a hard one. But I gave it a try. In no particular order.

Voivod - Jack Luminous

Les Claypool - One Better

Ween - Voodoo Lady (Live in Chicago)

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - Sleep Drifter

Nomeansno - Dark Ages

Alice Donut - The Puny and Revolting Men of Advertising Smile

Anacrusis - Brotherhood?

Type O Negative - Unsuccessfully Coping with the Natural Beauty of Infidelity

Nice, though I prefer the 'live' version of that type O negative song.
For some reason claypool always anoyed me

actually that type o song is in my top 100, spotify list that Im putting together. Quite when its finished I have no idea. I've been working on it over a year now.
Not heard of alice donut and anacrusis, So I'll give them a listen. I think my main beef with primus is he aint as smart as he likes to think he is.

I've never felt Les has tried to present himself as being especially smart. He's just an incredible musician with an unusual sense of humor. I can understand if some people find his voice a little irritating, but it's something I've grown used to.

Im liking alice donut, pure alice park is a great album (maybe their best but I still need to hear all their stuff some more times) great cover as well. Takes me back to my days working as a banana humper, Though I dont think I ever humped 2 bunches at once. Still bear the scar of where I put the cane knife into my foot. I remember nearly getting killed by a knife once whilst working, early days & I was humping for an alco (as they all were) cutter, he fucking cut through the tree and the blade stoped right on my stomach. his only words were dont stand so close, But I could tell he got a hell of a fright, disembowling the new guy

Wait, have you already listened to all 9 of their albums?

They're all good, but I would rank Pure Acid Park near the bottom. Mule is my favorite over all.

Seen Primus live thrice, once on their Pork Soda tour, once for the Tales From the Punchbowl tour and I saw them in-between at Woodstock 94. He's an incredible bassist and really fuckin great live. Haven't really paid attention to his solo stuff... maybe I should investigate?

I saw Primus once in 2011, and The Claypool Lennon Delirium in 2019.

His solo stuff is not as heavy as Primus, but a bit weirder for the most part. I do tend to like Primus better, but that song One Better that I mentioned is my favorite out of everything he's done.

Good song...not so big on the lyrics but Les always kills it on the bass. American Life off of Sailing the Seas of Cheese is my favorite Primus/Les joint.
