Instead of poluting(sp) the shoutout box, I'll start a thread here
https://zedzeek.com/horror/s.php
Any suggestions, theres ~2500 films in the DB ATM (though only got 1318 working atm since IMDB doesnt seem to like it if I crawl more than a 1000 films at a time, I suppose I can easily fix that though by just grabbing 1000 films at a time)

Zed I tried the same search as before- but let me know if I"m doing it wrong.

First, I clicked the "Spain" button.

Second, I clicked the "Search" button. If I understand correctly, this should then display a list of Spanish horror films>

But this is the list that came up after I clicked "Spain" and "Search"

https://zedzeek.com/horror/display.php?fromyear=1900&toyear=1999&fromlength=0&tolength=9999&cb-g[]=ALL&cb-sg[]=ALL&cb-c[]=Unknown&cb-c[]=US&cb-c[]=UK&cb-c[]=Italy&cb-c[]=Japan&cb-c[]=Germany&cb-c[]=Russia&cb-c[]=Austria&cb-c[]=Hungary&cb-c[]=France&cb-c[]=Australia&cb-c[]=Canada&cb-c[]=Hong%20Kong&cb-c[]=Singapore&cb-c[]=Sweden&cb-c[]=Finland&cb-c[]=Mexico&cb-c[]=Norway&cb-c[]=South%20Korea&cb-c[]=Poland&cb-c[]=Brazil&cb-c[]=Argentina&cb-c[]=Soviet%20Union&cb-c[]=Czechoslovakia&cb-c[]=Liechtenstein&cb-c[]=South%20Africa&cb-c[]=Turkey&cb-c[]=Belgium&cb-c[]=Switzerland&cb-c[]=Yugoslavia&cb-c[]=Netherlands&cb-l[]=ALL

Ah crap I forgot how to make a link in this box even though Fuad told me a dozen times. I'll put the link in the shout box, but see how all countries were given instead of just Spain?

The url mishap ain't your fault this time. If a url includes square brackets "[" or "]", it wont work right. I was simply hoping we'd never run into any of those links on here, because they're kind of weird.

And nothing I ever input works on this search, except if I don't apply any filters, which essentially just makes it a list of movies. I think zed's having issues trying to make it a real-time search. In all honesty, I don't even know what that means.

Doesn't that mean that if say Zed listed 20 countries, there would be at least 20 separate lists/ pages? And then those "country unit" lists could be combined with a multiple search- say you clicked 'Argintina" and then also "Spain," the Argentna unit list and the Span unit list wold come up on one page as a combined list? And if you clicked every country, then all of the films in Zeds' database would show up as one giant list. Saying it is one theing but writing the code for it might be tricky. I'm sure Zed will work it out, and then we foreign movie buffs will have an invaluable search resource. I can't wait for him to get it up and running.

Well, separate lists by country or one list spanning many countries can be done easily with a regular sql database, like what I use here. So until he explains it, I don't know shit about it.

The movie database here could theoretically do that, but I don't have a 'country' field for movies because some movies are filmed in multiple countries. What would you classify them as then? To make life easier, I just do that by tags.

Good point about the [] I'll get rid of them, its just a bit more work and will make the URL shorter as well

The genre/subgenre options get ignored but all the rest should work

eg to display films with either spanish or german use
http://zedzeek.com/horror/display.php?fromyear=1900&toyear=1999&fromlength=0&tolength=9999&cb-g[]=ALL&cb-sg[]=ALL&cb-c[]=ALL&cb-l[]=German&cb-l[]=Spanish

once you've done that you can reorder the resulting 75 films by clicking on the column header eg the year or IMDB rating

Is that what the real-time bit means? Javascript re-sorting the results? Minor suggestion: the column headers should change cursors to make it appear more like a clickable object.

yes, with IMDB search to reorder the results you have to go back and resubmit another search which is a bit retarded, yes good idea about changing the cursor, I'll do that tommorrow, its time to do something constructive (eat food and watch a film, makemusic before going to work)

Oh... well, IMDB has both. For vote-histories, re-sorting/filtering doesn't redirect, but for any other search (regular or advanced search), it does redirect. Stupid IMDB... where's the consistency?

In your re-ordering, with larger lists, there's a bit of lag and it's easy to crash it by fast-clicking, and it says the site is not responding during the sorting, but it does get there shortly after. Redirects don't bother me though.

If a box is blue its selected thus if you click spain and then press search it will list all films except those from spain

To see spain films only go

http://zedzeek.com/horror/display.php?fromyear=1900&toyear=1999&fromlength=0&tolength=9999&cb-g[]=ALL&cb-sg[]=ALL&cb-c[]=Spain&cb-l[]=ALL

OK removed all brackets from the URL's so you should be able to click here to search for all films from spain

https://zedzeek.com/horror/display.php?fromyear=1900&toyear=1999&fromlength=0&tolength=9999&cb-countries=Spain,&cb-languages=ALL

Brilliant! I found three of them already.

So to recap- If I want to search Argenitna horrors, I click on every country EXCEPT Argentina and then click search, right?
