Onyx informs me that she hasn't got a challenge lined up for this December, and whilst it also used to be the month for some extreme horror viewing, I thought it might be a good idea to try something different this time (and subsequently host my first challenge). The idea came from Troma's "disliking" of watching movies with subtitles. What could be more of a challenge for someone like Troma than a month of.. viewing movies with subtitles emoticon - you could say that, it's the ULTIMATE challenge emoticon.

So the main rule is: Movies cannot be either in the English language or your native tongue if English isn't your first language (I think only Johan applies here?). So American movies like The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto or A Girl Walked Home Alone At Night would still count but if you speak fluent French and you watch a French movie, it will not count. If you understand a bit of Japanese but still require the assistance of subtitles, then of course it still counts.

Like the Fantasy/Sci-Fi challenge, points will be based on running time.

Movies watched can be any genre.

I know December can be a busy month for some of us but if anyone is up for this, let me know below so I can get an idea of interest and if it's worth doing it..

Thanks. I was just clarifying since the emphasis so far has been movies.

Earlier, I watched an obscure French SOV flick called Sexandroide (1987). A whole lotta yelling and screaming. Thing is, not one word of dialogue. So, no subs. I figure if anyone had anything to say, they totally would have said it in French, but yeah. I managed to get out of reading anything, but not my fault. Is the fact that it's a foreign film enough?

No list or plan. Just a spontaneous decision, and wanted to watch something short this morning before I had to leave. If I can think of more movies with limited dialogue, I ain't gonna avoid them, but I doubt I'm gonna come across another one like this. But if I do, it'll be Onyx's fault.

You are really not going to take this opportunity to watch some well known and well loved extreme foreign cinema? Disappointing Troma! emoticon

No, I totally am. But if I come across some quick/easy points, I won't pass them up. A lot of rewatches I want to get it, too. I have more subtitled dvds than you would think. I got a bunch of them for a very horizon expanding October challenge from 2012. And I will get Audition and A Tale of Two Sisters watched, finally.

But if I do, it'll be Onyx's fault.

Care to enlighten me on how it would be my fault? Iā€™d really love to know that logic. emoticon

There was some music playing in the background in a bar in a scene from Sexandroide. Couldn't tell if they were singing in English, though. Bad sound. If it had been in English, I wouldn't have felt right counting it, but I couldn't tell.

IMDb says the language is French so it can count.

You may have already seen them for previous extreme challenges, but a few Japanese gore films like Grotesque, Tumbling Doll of Flesh and the Guinea Pig movies are watchable without caring much about subs.. there's another one called MuZan-e but it was actually more interesting with subs.
