I will put this one out there as a mini-challenge for at some point during this month. Basically you will have 10-12 days to watch as many episodes from any HBO series (minimum 40 minutes per episode) as you can. You will get 1 point per episode. If you manage to complete a whole season (minimum 8 episodes), you will get a bonus 10 points. So for example managing to watch 2 seasons of Deadwood would get you 44 points. If anyone would prefer it to be based on the traditional running time though, that is also ok.

If anyone is up for this, grab your spot and if there are 5 participants minimum, I will stick a date on it to begin.

So no Tales from the Crypt? emoticon

A reference for interested parties:

I suppose this could give me incentive to watch Westworld season 2. emoticon

I suppose we could do it on runtime as Zombie suggested. I wonder what's with the 3 deleted comments. Thought I had 6 participants for a moment!

I would prefer based on runtime or to give half credit for 20-39 minute shows Luke Tales from the Crypt and The Hitchhiker.

Not sure I'll watch much, but if you need another spot filled, count me in.

Deadwood will always be my #1 HBO rec. The Sopranos, Oz, and The Wire are also mostly good. If any of you have Amazon Prime, those and some others are available on there without an additional HBO subscription.

I own the Blu-ray set of Deadwood, but I've only ever gotten around to watching the first season so I'm planning to continue or even re-watch the first season. Being a fan the Western (challenge idea?!) I did really like it, my only issue with it is the sheer amount of F-bombs being dropped left, right and centre. I don't have a problem with strong language if it fits within the context of the setting and the characters but here it doesn't work for me (why not just have one or two characters like Al Swearegen use bad language frequently). It feels like swearing for the sake of swearing when almost every character is dropping them. There seem to be more F-bombs in a single episode than The Sopranos and The Wire put together and it gets a little irritating and unnecessary after a while.

The Sopranos, Oz, and The Wire are also mostly good.

Season 4 of The Wire is the best season of any show I've ever seen. Season 5 however...

Yeah, there is a lot of swearing, particularly "fuck" and "cocksucker" (there's a compilation on YouTube of the latter). It doesn't bother me personally, but I can understand how its excessiveness could become annoying. I hope you decide to continue watching anyway. I love it. It's a top five show for me easily, maybe only behind Twin Peaks.

I've thought about a western movie challenge before, with a trifecta point for actors, like a Clint Eastwood trifecta. Didn't think anyone else on here besides maybe Box cared much about westerns though.

I mainly had The Wire in mind when I called those shows "mostly good." emoticon I didn't even hate season 5, but it's a disappointment, especially as a final season.

Tell that to Game of Thrones fans emoticon. Yeah the whole plot with McNulty's fake serial killer was kind of lame. The final season of Boardwalk Empire wasn't great either. And considering that Deadwood was never "finished" until they did this recent movie, it seems HBO have a habit of rushing or finishing quite a few of their shows on a disappointing note. Some people even hate the end of The Sopranos, but I was cool with it.

Yeah, it probably would have even less takers than the war one.

I love the first season of Twin Peaks and I enjoyed the last season a lot. Season two was too hit and miss for me though, for the show to be truly great. I disliked practically every episode after the killer of Laura Palmer is revealed.

That's the exact problem with the Deadwood movie: it's rushed and disappointing. A lot of things needed to be wrapped up and most of the characters had a few minutes of screen time at most, some less than that.

I've watched season 1 of Boardwalk Empire. Not my favorite HBO show, but I'll probably try to watch some more for this challenge.

Yeah, it goes a little downhill from there until season 2's finale. A lot of filler story lines that don't mean much in the end. Dennis/Denise will never not crack me up though.
