I had posted about this in another thread, but wanted to make a dedicated thread for it. This is a text based roll playing game that requires almost no effort can be really really fun. The following post has the rules and a very boiled down example.

RTD (Roll to Dodge):

Sign-Up/Set-Up Phase:
1. The Master (or Host) picks a senerio and writes an introduction story to set the mood.
2. Players sign in by posting "/in" in the sign up thread (typically 4-6 players is best, the exact number is set by the Master, sometimes Masters have extra players in a "queue" to replace others that quit or "die" in game)
3. Each player then writes a short backstory for their character and posts it to thread (you can typically pick whatever you want: abilities, intelect, etc..., but keep in mind it is more fun when you stick to the theme)
4. The Master then writes an intro that introduces all of the players to the set up scenerio

Day Phase:
1. The Master will set a time line for action submitions (typically 1 week again this game is not very demanding)
2. Each "day" (period set by master) each player will submit an action. This can be as simple as "do nothing" or more creative like "set a fire and pee it out"
3. Actions are posted publicly in the thread and can be changed up until the deadline. Players are encouraged to talk in thread and try to work together to solve issues and problems thrown at them by the master.
4. One the deadline is set reached the Master will ask players to stop posting or lock the thread and then we enter the processing phase.

Processing Phase:
1. This phase is very easy for the players, you do nothing.
2. The Master will take 1-3 days (prespecified) to do the following 2 things
3. First the Master will roll a 6 sided die (once for each player). Based on the outcome of the roll the action will have one of the following type of outcome

#1: Epic Failure - The player failed in their action so bad something bad happened
#2: Small Failure - The player failed but nothing really happened
#3: Small Sucess - The player suceeded, but nothing valuable was achieved
#4: Large Sucess - The player suceeded and achieved what they wanted
#5: Epic Sucess - The player suceeded in the best way possible
#6: Overshot Sucess - The player suceeded so much that the action backfired

4. Then, once the dice have been rolled, the Master with then write a scene that ties all of the actions and their results together and also introduces new elements for the next "Day Phase"

Ending Phase:
The game can end in 1 of 4 scenerios
1. Everyone dies (This happens when everyone dies and the Master has chosen to not have or is out of alternates in their "queue")
2. World is destroyed (Similar to everyone dying, but regaurdless or players and alternates the game ends)
3. Mission accomplished (Sometimes Masters will theme the game like a quest and when you win, well you win)
4. Game has hit a point that everyone agrees has taken to long, at this point a vote is held and if the majority want it to end the Master sets a number of days that are remaining and once tey are done the game ends.

Example game

Example Set-Up (Typically much much longer and more detailed and would include a second intro paragraph introducing the players to the set up and each other)

Intro:
Lost in the woods a group of characters find themselves having to rely on something they have never before had to... themselves.

Player 1: Hippie who has just been hanging in the woods for decades
Player 2: Teenager that is really dumb.
Player 3: Tough guy named Brock, never met a weight he couldn't lift

Day 1
Player 1 Action: Smoke a joint
Player 2 Action: Look for sticks
Player 3 Action: Start fire to stay warm

Day 1 Processing
Player 1 Result: 3
Player 2 Result: 5
Player 3 Result: 6

As the night winds down the three strangers all decide to split up, with no more than a simple "hi I'm Brock" the three all decided to do there own thing. Player 1, a hippie named flower-chi (her parents passed out high before finishing flower-child on her birth certificate) decides she wants to get high. FC lights up a joint and passes out before anyone get a chance to get to know her. With the hippie passed out the dumb teenager realized that he's not going to get any of her drugs so he does the only thing his mom ever told him to do when they were camping, go and look for some sticks. Brock was already ranting about wanting a fire so why not. The teenager goes off alone, into the woods to search. While looking for sticks the teenagers trips over a box and finds nothing less than a crate full of sticks of dynomite. The teenager picks up the crate and heads back into camp, when he arrives back he seeing a giant fire roaring, man Brock made a nice fire. But upon firther inspection the teenager sees that the reason the fire is so big is because Brock had caught fire him self and fallen into the fire pit.

Brock is now dead and the camp now has a crate of dynomite is is now day 2, players have 7 days to sumbit their next actions

Notes
I put this together fast. Normally the stories will be better an more intreiging this is just designed to give youo an idea of how the game works. Again it take almost no effort on the players part unless they want it to. I'd love you guy's thoughts.

I pointed out to @der that most of us aren't as into mainstream cinema for the fantasy box office thing to work, but this idea could be a lot more fun, I think. It's mostly just an imaginative narrative being loosely constructed by user input, and as he said, requires minimal effort on the players' part. That said, I think it would be easy for anyone to throw out an occasional reply to churn out a good yarn, so I'm up for trying this out. We'll only need a few more.

Does the host participate in this, too? Or would the host just be the DM?

I'm willing to give it a try. Never played Dungeons & Dragons or anything similar, but it sounds simple enough.

Cool. I am going to see if I can get 2 more poeple so we can have me run it and 4 players. Typically the DM isn't a player. I've seen it happen, but it usually doesn't work well. The only time I would play is if a player quit who was integral to the story. I may take over their character until I find a propper way to write or kill them off.
