I loved both movies so much, although having rewatched Hereditary it has lost its appeal, so for that I give my vote to Midsommar!

Hereditary. The only movie I've bought in about 5 years.

This is a tough one! I just recently watched Midsommar for the first time (also gave Troma the Blu ray for Christmas) and as much as I love Hereditary, I'm going to have to vote Midsommar this round. I felt so bad for that poor girl!

So Midsommar has my vote.

I love them. The director is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I know they aren't for everyone though.

The thing I really love about them is the dark atmosphere, especially in Midsommar. Midsommar is filmed in such a beautiful place and the whole tone of the movie is ominous. I love how the two things conflict with each other.

I see what you mean. Well I already explained plenty of times why Heriditary didn't work for me. In a movie where focus is on drama I have to care for its characters and I just couldn't except for well you know who (or maybe you don't since you had been absent from the board when I did express my opinion on it, well the little girl). But there is indeed movies I like very much for their atmosphere where I do care for the characters: the Conjuring 2, the Innocents to name just 2.

I get it. Some movies hit or miss with all of us. I think it's interesting to hear other's opinions on a movie. I like to know why someone likes a movie and why someone doesn't.

I'm starting to realize why 2010-2019 is an option for my least favorite horror period. I really should take a look at my collection and wonder am I that different from the norm.

Hereditary hyped as the scariest movie since what the Exorcist? Unsettling nah just another drama in a horror jacket full of red herrings. Anyway it can't get much worse well maybe Mandy's first half that was even more boring.

So yeah just like Bry I'm going to skip this one and not vote for a movie I think that sucked Balls (was it Ballz choice btw?). It might be better than Midsommar or not. i'm not going to waste my time watching Midsommar given its length and that's it's from the same director as Hereditary. I have heard it got serious similarities with The Wicker Man, another flick I really found awful (both the remake and original) it's safe to assume I won't like it either.

I hope Aster moves to another genre, because these kind of flicks are really sucking the fun out of horror for me.

I hope he doesn't because he is clearly a master of directing horror. He'll be known alongside the greats in the future, no doubt about that. Midsommar was the best horror movie of the year, probably the last few years. I thought Hereditary was good, not great, but good. How is it sucking the life out of horror? How over dramatic you are. If anything it's returning life to the horror genre. At least they are original unlike remakes of Black Christmas, etc. which ARE sucking the life out of horror. And what's funny is, you haven't even seen it. But then I suppose, if you've already decided you are going to hate something, then yeah I would not bother to watch it.

I really should take a look at my collection and wonder am I that different from the norm.

No, you are not. It's the weakest decade for me. I own hardly any movies from this period but that doesn't mean I haven't enjoyed a few.

Oh good old Markus stalking me again when I criticize Hereditary, I'm starting to enjoy it somehow emoticon
You know sfpx thinks it sucks too but I guess you don't like to pester him about it emoticon

Well call me dramatic I don't mind but maybe I just got tired about paranormal, psychological horror with focus on drama and slow moving story, mystery etc. When a story or characters don't interest me it's going to be a drag anyway even more when it is going to take up 2 hours or more. Maybe I'm just not interested any more in all that jazz about some dramatic or traumatic event, some old dark family secret etc. I can enjoy that on occasion and a few are even my favorites (The Innocents). I did like from the never wave the Conjuring 2, Oculus and a Quiet Place. I think it already started with the characters and a concept that appealed to me. There is just nothing of that for me in Hereditary. And the story of Midsommar doesn't appeal to me in the first place so why bother?

I also tend to move towards the simpler and more graphical horror 70s style when gore looked not that clean as it looks now. Yummy was refreshing there as it didn't want to be more than well zombies that attack patients in a hospital, no deeper stuff to be found there. And not that arty farty stuff like Mandy either. But I guess this kind of horror does not interest you much. Is that out of your comfort zone?

Look who is over dramatic now in his defense? I never mentioned sucking the life out of horror. I said taking the fun out of horror for ME. But well I know you like to twist my words and take if for truth. If you ever plan to write or direct movies (I know you do have that desire) be prepared for much harder criticism than this.

No, you are not. It's the weakest decade for me. I own hardly any movies from this period but that doesn't mean I haven't enjoyed a few.

And yes I have enjoyed a few too from this decade but there seems to be a consensus that everyone but me and Bry loves Hereditary as if it were the re-invention of hot water. That's what I mean that I differ quite a bit from this norm.

Now go see some trashy horror so we can discuss something else than bicker over this shyte movie for the umpteenth time emoticon

Right because he doesn't keep banging on about it or try to find any excuse to have a dig at a particular movie. You didn't even vote therefore why do you even feel the need to make your opinion known. Sure, if you were discussing the merits of either movie, you might want to justify picking one over the other but no, you just see it as a chance to have a dig at the director, of whom you have seen ONE movie by. You know that is true so don't try to deny it. You just can't help yourself.

I think I made one comment one time about you complaining about the best character dying early, and I pointed out it was necessary to the plot as others did. I would not call that stalking. Paranoia is creeping in there I think? And I don't love the movie at all, I merely like it.

Is that out of your comfort zone?

No, I don't just enjoy "arty farty" movies but I admit I am not really into trashy movies either.

If you ever plan to write or direct movies (I know you do have that desire)

I think you are confusing me with someone else there.
