Since this decade is coming to a close, the next game of Vote for the Best will focus on only horror movies from the 2010s. However, instead of voting from a whole list of movies at once, this time movies will face off against each other one at a time until one movie remains. I have chosen four movies and Ballz has chosen 4.
First round is going to be: The Babadook vs. It Follows

Each poll will be open for 24 hours! Have fun! And remember, vote for which one you like the best, not which one you think will win!

Both are ok, but I have to vote for It Follows. The kid in The Babadook is beyond annoying.

There has been a few movies where I hope the kid dies and they unfortunately don't. But gosh yeah that one needed to be locked up with the Babadook forever.

Same here. Kept hoping The Babadook would eat the little bastard.

And that's another reason why that movie annoys me...

Yeah I'm actually against these family dramas which add imaginary monsters/ghosts to get a horror label. To quote someone from MovieMeter wo had just seen Yummy:

Translated from Dutch so if it comes out funny I'm sorry...

Let 2020 be the year that genre cinema reclaims joy for movies again. The last 10 years everyone has been borrowing from all kind of genres, the result is that everything has become slower, more serious, political, society criticism and blah blah (I like to add complexity and style over substance to that myself). The pure fun was disappearing a bit especially in the zombie genre with a TV show like the Walking Dead as a sad low.

That's what is striking about Yummy that it doesn't care about giving in to the need for something plus hype like pretty much every other horror director has been doing. That it feels old school zombie with gore and a simple is even though far from original, feels very refreshing now.

Yeah, it's not really horror. I agree it's more of a family drama. Although, that kid is pretty damn horrific.

The Babadook has the most annoying kid ever. One of the worst of this decade IMO.

It Follows has a good idea but a rather tame execution. It wins by default.

I'm positive that the next line up will be better movies. emoticon

Well I have been rather nice so I'll add: The Babadook is actually a drama, the monster is just to lure horror fans to be treated to another trauma of unlikable people.

It Follows starts with a rather graphic scene and a scene with some nudity later on, after that it's typical teenage angst, cat and mouse game with the difference of an invisible villain. For a movie where sex is a key ingredient there is pretty little of it.

It might have borrowed ideas from The Entity (1982) which is a much better movie. At least that shows what an invisible entity is capable of. Heck even the Hollow Man was scarier than It Follows.

I haven't watched the Babadook, but it's pretty popular in this decade which is why it's on there.

It follows though, I really liked. I thought it was fine wonderful!

Thank you for taking the time writing your opinion. I love hearing everyone's!

Well it's one of the reasons I am here. A board is there for discussions and giving your opinions. Just voting without explanation is boring. But I guess people are in a hurry like everyone having to celebrate Xmas emoticon

I assume you haven't seen that much horror so in that case I would understand being impressed with It Follows. It's definitely a competent achievement but I'm also someone who compares a lot to the older stuff. Oh and there is plenty of older movies even classics than won't escape my sharp criticism emoticon

Lol yeah the holidays make people busy!

And I only recently got into horror in the last few years. I'm still trying to watch why I can watch, but I like It Follows, it's one of the better movies that came out this decade in my opinion. I'm also not very critical, and will watch anything.

You haven't seen The Babadook? Well, as Johan, Markus, and I all explained how annoying the kid is, it's easy to pick something like It Follows instead.

Hell, I wished I had someone to warn me about that damn Babadook kid before I watched it. You're lucky, you have three people warning you emoticon.

Watch it... You'll see. The kid is a dick.
