Well... I have gone on another splurge this week.

These are what I came away with (right in time for the challenge too!):

bought:

Ju-On: The Grudge 2 (2003)
The Eye (2002)
The Eye 2 (2004)
Shutter (2004)
Dark Water (2002)
The War of the Worlds (1953)
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
Return of the Living Dead III (1993)
Deliver Us from Evil (2014)
The House of the Devil (2009)
The Enfield Haunting (TV Mini-Series 2015)
Frankenstein (2015)
Jessabelle (2014)
The Mummy (1932)/Creature From The Black Lagoon(1954) - two film collectors edition.
The Wolf Man (1941)/Werewolf Of London (1935) - two film collectors edition.

rented (from local library):

The Martian (2015)
Truth or Dare (2018)
Alien: Covenant (2017)
The Girl with All the Gifts (2016)
The Dark Tower (2017)
Dracula - The Legacy Collection (Dracula / Dracula's Daughter / Son of Dracula / House of Dracula/House of Frankenstein)

Anyone have any thoughts on these?

Shutter II? The first Shutter is from 2004 but I don't know of any sequel. I rate the Asian films:

Ju-On: The Grudge 2 (2003) 6.5/10 - Actually scarier than the first but less story.
The Eye (2002) 7.5/10 - Some genuinely creepy moments. The lift scene is one of the most memorable in Asian horror. Oh and the restaurant scene..
The Eye 2 (2004) 6/10 - Has some decent jump scares, Shu Qi is great but not as good as the original.
Shutter (2004) 7/10 - Still one of the best Thai horror movies and the ending is unexpected.
Dark Water (2002) 7.5/10 - Atmospheric and creepy, without relying too much on jump scares.. in the way Ringu was. Pity the director has not really done anything else as good since..

I thoroughly disliked Alien: Covenant. It is a movie that should never exist. Ridley Scott takes all the mystery of the original and just shits over it. Fassbender is it's only saving grace. And CG aliens suck!

Oh yes, I mean't Shutter from 2004. I don't know why I wrote that.

I bought Ju-On: The Grudge 2 after you recommending it to me.. I trust your judgement!

Alien: Covenant... you are probably right.. I seen all the Alien/Predator films... so I thought I would just complete the series.

I actually do think libraries provide a pretty good resource for movies fans... at least where I live they do.. in many ways they have replaced those Blockbuster stores and the like... albeit with much less of a selection.. of course. They do carry a surprisingly decent amount of new titles.

I haven't seen any of those Asian ghost films in a long time, but I recall enjoying The Eye, Shutter, and Dark Water to varying degrees. Not sure if I've seen Ju-On: The Grudge 2 and I definitely haven't seen The Eye 2.

I saw The War of the Worlds for the first time in August and liked it a lot. The effects hold up. I haven't seen The Day the Earth Stood Still, but I want to.

Return of the Living Dead 3 is okay. It's got some pretty violent parts, but it lacks the fun factor of the first two and I don't enjoy the plot as much as the first or even second. I do give them credit for trying to do something different with it. If that's Lion Gate's Vestron Blu-ray, it's got some good extras.

The House of the Devil is great, easily my favorite of your purchases. If you haven't seen it before, I hope you'll enjoy it as well.

The Mummy, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Wolf Man, and Dracula are all good. The Dracula sequels are okay.

The only movie you've listed that I've seen and really didn't like is Alien: Covenant. I liked Prometheus, but I didn't care about anything going on in Covenant. Nothing about it stands out in my mind.

Like 90 per cent of what I buy are blind buys... so hopefully the majority of them are decent.

Truth be told, I am not a huge fan of the ROTLD movies (I only seen the first two) but I read that this was a bit different to them akin to Halloween III: Season of the Witch.

I haven't seen The House of the Devil. I like Ti West's films.

I need to see more of these Universal horror films I only have see a select few - not many. I figure are fitting for October, and they are only like 80 minutes in length.

Luckily, I only rented Alien: Covenant

In that case, yeah, you might enjoy RotLD 3, at least more than I do. Other than Trioxin and I think one or two references to the previous movies through dialogue, it kind of does its own thing.

I like West's films as well. I'm a big fan of The Sacrament. Hopefully he'll get back to making horror movies soon.

Have you ever seen The Invisible Man (1933)? If not, it's worth adding to your Universal horror line-up. I also recommend Bride of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein.

Yes, I seen The Invisible Man - I loved it.

I haven't seen Bride of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein. Thanks for the recommendations.

Have you noticed a lot of the films from that era had a lot of social commentary going on? At least I thought so. The Incredible Shrinking Man is a good example I found.

Only ones I've seen of these are War of the Worlds, The Wolfman, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Dark Water and House of the Devil. I liked all of them.

I think I did also see The Mummy, but it was so long ago that I don't remember much except Boris Karloff being in it. I'd have to see that one again.
